Under supervision, the purpose of this position is to support and expand existing community outreach opportunities and create new avenues for community outreach including working with our community, staff, volunteers, local organizations, businesses, and other animal related organizations. This position requires significant contact with the public, volunteers, and co-workers as it relates to Animal Services programs occurring at the animal shelter and at various offsite locations. The incumbent will work to increase the number of onsite and offsite events designed to educate the community, promote adoptions, participate in playgroups, train animals to make them more adoptable, recruit volunteers, solicit donations, and other animal services related activities.

* Assists with rescue coordination, volunteer and staff training, event planning and setup, as well as growing volunteer and foster programs. 
* Works with staff and volunteers to get to know the shelter animals which increases the number of quality animal adoptions by speaking with potential adopters about the animals. 
* Coordinates and participates in community and adoption events.
* Assists with increasing the number of foster homes through marketing on social media, as well as attending community events to find potential fosters. 
* Provides necessary resources and/or training through supplies at the shelter and online modules depending on what type of animal they are taking.
* Creates and posts animal, adoption, and education related content on a variety of social media platforms.
* Facilitates pick up of animals by rescue organizations.
* Trains volunteers on various aspects of dog play groups, training, etc. 
* Performs other duties as assigned/necessary which are related, or logical in assignment to the position.

Education: High School Diploma or GED.

Experience: Two (2) years demonstrated experience providing for the general welfare of animals in an animal shelter or veterinary clinic environment. Animal shelter experience and experience with rescue organizations, foster programs, and/or outreach programs strongly preferred.

Experience with Facebook and a variety of other social media platforms preferred.

Miscellaneous: Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.

* Knowledge of volunteer programs and events planning. 
* General knowledge of animals and a passion for animal welfare.
* Skill in written communications for the effective development and presentation of information related to various Osceola County Animal Services programs and services.
* Ability to develop and present information to a variety of audiences.
* Skilled in the use of social media.
* Must be highly motivated, organized, and detail oriented. 
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, peers, management, citizens, and community-based business organizations. 
* Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
* Ability to interact professionally and positively with diverse groups of people.
* Ability to demonstrate compassion and professionalism in the face of adversity.
* Ability to use computers, printers, copy machines, telephone systems, facsimile machines.
* Ability to read, update and maintain various records and files; ability to access, operate and maintain various software applications.
* Ability to work in fast paced, high stress environment.
* Ability to be flexible due to the unpredictable nature of animal shelter work.
* Ability to work well with limited supervision and attain positive results.
* Ability to work as a team player.

PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS:      

Physical Demand: Medium

* 50 pounds maximum lifting.
* Frequent (up to 2/3 of the work time) lifting, carrying up to 25 lbs.
* Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word or perceiving sound by ear.
* Good eyesight for production or safety of self and others.
* Physical demand requirements are in excess of light work
