We are seeking candidates for the position of Bldgs Struc Welder-1st Dl (1161) in the .

OVERALL DESCRIPTION

Performs electric and gas welding on steel bridges, stairways, platforms and welding repairs to various mechanical equipment such as bus washers, pumps, overhead doors, cyclone cleaners, boilers, and smoke stacks. Performs other related duties such as erecting scaffolding, sandblasting and painting to prep and finish welding areas.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

To be proficient in joining metals by electric arc, brazing or gas welding processes in all positions; in gas cutting of ferrous metals; in installation, maintenance and repair of structural steel work and in the performance of elated duties under the general supervision of the Supervisor. Performs electric and gas welding in all positions on steel bridges, stairways, platforms and welding repairs to various mechanical equipment such as bus washers, pumps, overhead doors, cyclone cleaners, boilers, smoke stacks, etc. Lays out work; makes templates of steel work to be fabricated; makes sketches of work to be performed. Makes proper welding machine adjustments for thickness of metal or filler rod requirements; sets up regulators, torches; adjusts gas pressures according to tip sizes. Repairs or erects various structures and equipment. Manufacturers various fixtures and equipment required by department. Fabricates, installs and repairs various facility structures such as fences, railings, gates, etc. Joins such metals as low and high carbon steel, aluminum, stainless steel, monel, copper or other similar or related metals. Uses acetylene cutting torch. Directs activities of employees of lower classification. Carries tools and equipment as necessary; cleans and clears work area. Installs, replaces or repairs various welded piping and fittings. Applies prime and finish paint to all repair work as necessary. Lays out and erects shoring under bridges to be repaired, removes from around steel to be repaired or replaced. Operates sand and shot blasting equipment to clean steel. Lays out and erects scaffolding and performs rigging as required. Operates Authority truck to various locations and services by adding air to tires, gas, oil and water as required; fills out card on truck operating condition; operates Fork Lift truck. Uses various pneumatic, electric and hand tools pertinent to the occupation. Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities. Reports any safety concerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public, self and/or other employees. Responsible for personal safety and is encouraged to promote the safety of others.

ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Must be an experienced welder with skills in electric arc welding, gas welding, cutting and brazing.
  • Must have knowledge of characteristics of metals.
  • Must be certified in accordance with requirements of ASME, AWS or ABS.
  • Must satisfactorily complete qualification tests.
  • Must have a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license or equivalent. Will be required to obtain CDL license at a later date.
