The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is the sixth largest transportation system in the United States, with a vast network of fixed route services including bus, subway/elevated, trackless trolley, light rail, and commuter rail serving a 2,200 square mile service region.

We are seeking candidates for the position of Bldgs Struc Welder Specialist (1160) in both City Transit and Regional Rail.

OVERALL DESCRIPTION

As an experienced structural welder specialist, performs electric and gas welding on steel bridges, stairways, platforms and welding repairs to various mechanical equipment such as bus washers, pumps, overhead doors, cyclone cleaners, boilers, and smoke stacks. Performs other related duties such as erecting scaffolding, sandblasting and painting to prep and finish welding areas.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILTIES

Performs electric and gas welding in all positions on steel bridges, stairways, and platforms as well as various mechanical equipment such as vehicle washers, pumps, overhead doors, cleaners, etc. Repairs or erects various structures and equipment. Fabricates, installs, repairs various facility structures, railings, etc. Uses various pneumatic, electric, and hand tools. Uses machines, equipment, and acetylene cutting torch. Performs other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILTIES

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Consistent with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) respiratory protection standard, this position requires the use of a tight fitting respirator. SEPTA employees required to wear a tight fitting respirator must be clean-shaven and fit-tested.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have at least 3 years of relevant welding experience
  • Must satisfactorily complete qualification tests.
  • Must have valid PA CDL driver's license or equivalent.
  • Must pass NORAC Operating Rules and maintain all books and notices as required.
