Introduction

The Division of Employment & Training has 1 permanent vacancy for an Advanced Financial Specialist. This position will be headquartered in Madison, WI with the ability for remote work after training has been completed and per business needs. Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Budget Unit Supervisor, this position has responsibility to implement, monitor and update the division's fiscal reporting and monitoring systems for assigned programs and projects in the Division of Employment and Training. This includes both federal and non-federal grants. This position insures full compliance with federal regulations for programs and assist in preparing the required monthly, quarterly, or annual reports specified by the granting agency, DET management, and program managers. This position also creates requisitions and modifies purchase orders and assists in the processing of invoices in the state system, reconciles expenditures and encumbrances included on reports to state or federal agencies and assists in the development of written policies and procedures to facilitate the functioning of programs within federal and state guidelines.

Salary Information

Salary is $29.00 per hour ($60,320 annually), plus excellent benefits. For more benefits information, view our benefits overview , or more in-depth benefits e-learning .

A 12-month probationary period will be required. The classification title for this position is Financial Specialist Advanced (schedule 02, range 15). This position is not represented in a collective bargaining unit and is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan in effect at the time of appointment. Starting pay may vary for current state employees.

Job Details

DWD does not sponsor visas and is not an eligible OPT employer for those with F1 visas. This is not a contract position. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.

Qualifications

You need to have the following experience:
  • *Processing financial documents/transactions with attention to detail and accuracy (such as accounts payable, banking, billing, collections, credit card or financial services, payday lending, payroll, professional tax preparation, etc.), including using basic office software
  • Organizing and prioritizing work to meet deadlines, including adapting to meet changing priorities
  • Excellent communication skills, including explaining detailed information to people from a variety of backgrounds
Any of the following experience would be nice to have:
  • *Working within state and/or federal cost accounting procedures
  • *Reporting on grant activities, following grant funding guidelines, grant cost accounting, or similar
  • *Recommending or implementing changes to financial or data systems or processes
  • Creating requisitions and purchase orders using Peoplesoft
  • Demonstrating good judgement and critical thinking skills
