Supervisor, Accounting

Ullico Inc. is actively recruiting a Supervisor Accounting for our Silver Spring, MD office. Reporting to the Manager, Accounting and Financial Reporting, this position will manage and coordinate the activities of Accounting and Financial Reporting area. Responsible for performing complex and varied accounting work for assigned department(s) requiring professional knowledge of accounting. Responsible for the completion of annual and quarterly statutory and GAAP financial statements. Document SOPs for key areas of accounting and financial reporting. Job Duties/Responsibilities Coordinate quarterly and annual statement filings on a statutory basis for assigned company(ies). Analyze data in terms of prior results and expectations, as well as reconciling the data to outside sources. Complete certain statutory schedules which are component of the quarterly and annual statement filings. Record all third party administrator transactions (premiums, claims, etc.) to the general ledger on a monthly basis. Responsible for the completion of the required statutory footnotes for assigned company(ies).. Responsible for understanding, documenting and supporting the day-to-day activities of GAAP financial reporting for assigned company(ies) and funds. Provide assistance to external auditors in compilation of audit information. Reconcile and analyze general ledger accounts determining necessary adjustments on a monthly basis. Calculate and prepare complex journal entries. Supervise, train and/or delegate to staff. Establish and maintain ongoing communication with staff regarding performance expectations, organization and department goals and career objectives. Provide training resources, mentoring, and employee developments plans and prepare and communicate performance appraisals as appropriate or required. Document and communicate disciplinary actions as necessary. Develop and implement ideas and/or procedures to enhance processes within assigned area as needed. Responsible for understanding and implementing changes to statutory financial statements in accordance with new accounting and regulatory requirements. Responsible for cross-functional collaboration with actuarial, FP&A and other business functions to ensure internal initiatives are completed and deadlines are met. Responsible for the administration function of the statutory financial software package (EFreedom) Perform other similar and related duties as required. Qualifications The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field. Our ideal candidate will have five to seven years’ of accounting experience including financial reporting, GAAP financial reporting and statutory financial statements. Advanced Excel and spreadsheet reporting skills are required. Must have supervisory experience and be able to deal with all levels of internal associates and outside agencies. Excellent written and oral communication skills and attention to detail are critical for this role.
