Overview The Department of Human Resources is seeking a Desktop Support Specialist II to provide advanced technical support to end‑users and maintain the reliability of desktops, laptops, and related hardware and software. This role focuses on a Microsoft‑centric environment and requires strong troubleshooting skills, enterprise tool proficiency, and the ability to resolve complex issues efficiently. Responsibilities Provide first‑level support via telephone, in person, chat, and email for internal customers. Install, configure, support, and maintain hardware, software, and computer systems, including cameras, sensors, and workstations. Diagnose and resolve complex hardware, software, and optical connectivity problems. Perform systems administration for major server and operating systems; deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot network devices. Write or modify scripts for software startup/shutdown and resolve system performance issues. Administer user accounts, network security, and access controls. Coordinate vendor inspections and service contracts for hardware and software. Evaluate systems, recommend improvements, and test vendor products for compatibility. Participate in large hardware and software migration projects and automation initiatives. Generate and maintain technical documentation, logs, and network schematics. Provide end‑user training on specialized systems. Ensure compliance with all port and safety regulations. Qualifications 3 + years of progressively responsible experience in systems administration or customer support (Desktop Support Specialist II). Strong knowledge of operating system architectures, network administration, and troubleshooting tools. Experience with CCTV/IP surveillance, virtual server infrastructure, and physical access control systems. Proficiency in scripting, system performance tuning, and database management. Excellent customer‑service skills and effective communication. Ability to work independently, set priorities, and meet deadlines. Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability under the district’s vehicle insurance program (if required). Education and Experience Associate degree or equivalent training in computer science, information systems, or related field. Demonstrated experience in system administration, desktop support, or related roles. Licenses and Certifications Valid driver’s license (where required).
