RESEARCH SPECIALIST II – School of Medicine, Pharmacology Position Type: Full‑Time/Regular | Location: Boston, MA | Salary Grade: 47 | Category: Professional. Position Overview This role contributes to investigations into mechanisms of bacterial cell wall synthesis. The incumbent designs and conducts experiments in molecular biology, structural biology, and biochemistry, with a focus on membrane protein production, purification, cryo‑EM sample preparation, and microbiological assays. The position supports experimental planning, collaborates closely with the principal investigator and team members, and ensures adherence to protocols and scientific rigor. Responsibilities Plan and execute experiments involving advanced molecular, structural, and biochemical techniques. Produce, purify, and prepare membrane proteins for cryo‑EM and related assays. Maintain laboratory equipment and oversee routine maintenance tasks. Collaborate on experimental design and troubleshoot technical issues. Present results in lab meetings and contribute to scientific manuscripts. Train and mentor junior laboratory personnel on established protocols and specialized equipment. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of related laboratory experience. Hands‑on experience with molecular biology, structural biology, or microbiological assay techniques. Demonstrated proficiency in membrane protein production, cryo‑EM sample preparation, and advanced equipment handling. Strong attention to detail, reliable execution of established protocols, and the ability to teach others. Experience in teaching or laboratory work beyond coursework is preferred.
