General Summary The Staff Psychologist and Coordinator of Clinical Training within University Health Services will provide high-quality, time-effective, evidence-based and culturally responsive clinical services, including triage; emergency and crisis intervention services; referrals and evaluations; as well as individual and group counseling and psychotherapy. The incumbent will also provide consultation to faculty and staff and provide outreach to the campus community. The incumbent will manage a caseload to serve the maximum number of students who are appropriate for services at the University Health Services Counseling Center; and will consult with and/or make timely and appropriate mental health referrals for students as needed. In addition, the Staff Psychologist and Coordinator of Clinical Training will provide leadership for the University Health Services Counseling Center Clinical Practicum and Advanced Clinical Practicum, serving as the liaison between the Counseling Center and the graduate programs in which the trainees are enrolled. The incumbent will guide the process of planning and producing the yearly practicum orientation, assuming primary responsibility for ensuring that trainees and practicum supervisors understand and act in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Counseling Center; will oversee all data collection pertaining to the evaluation of the practicum; and will be responsible for overseeing the application process for the Advanced Clinical Practicum. Examples of Duties Provide high-quality, time-effective, evidence-based, culturally responsive clinical services, including triage, emergency and crisis intervention, referral, as well as individual and group counseling and psychotherapy. Produce and maintain excellent and timely clinical records and participate in quality management activities, in accordance with University Health Services policy. Manage a clinical caseload so as to serve the maximum number of students who are appropriate for services at the UHS Counseling Center. Consult with and/or make timely and appropriate mental health referrals to other professional staff of the University Health Services, as well as to other departments or professionals on- or off-campus, as appropriate to meet students' needs. Serve as consultant and resource person for faculty and other University staff about counseling programs and services available to students; collaborate with and consult with university departments to coordinate planning and intervention with students of concern. Conduct culturally responsive outreach efforts for students and evaluate their effectiveness. Participate in the development of programming to meet changing student needs and requests. Liaison with university faculty, staff and other University personnel in order to be informed of and participate in campus activities which might be supportive of students' needs. Maintain statistical records and submit, as required, reports on activities. Serve as back-up for other staff members, as necessary, such as by providing emergency or triage coverage when a staff member is absent. Keep current on clinical practice and supervision practices relevant to this setting, including risk management. Provide high-quality and culturally-competent supervision of trainees, as needed. Update the University Health Services Counseling Center Clinical Practicum and Advanced Clinical Practicum training manuals and materials. Serve as the point person for all issues related to trainees' placement at the University Health Services Counseling Center; create and run yearly orientation to the University Health Services Counseling Center Practicum and Advanced Practicum; facilitate practicum supervisors' meetings; coordinate trainee office hours and room assignments; oversee regular chart reviews on trainee cases. Assume or assign direct supervision of a primary supervisor's trainees if primary supervisor becomes unavailable. Oversee yearly or biannual evaluation of the University Health Services Counseling Center Clinical Practicum and Advanced Clinical Practicum. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Earned doctorate from an APA accredited program in counseling or clinical psychology and an APA accredited internship or doctorate in similar field; and licensed or license eligible as a psychologist and certified health service provider in the state of Massachusetts; and a minimum of three-five (3‑5) years of experience post-degree delivering evidence-based and culturally responsive crisis intervention, evaluation and treatment to young adults and/or adults is required. Experience working with underserved populations required. Some extended day and/or evening hours may be required. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a college or university counseling center and/or experience providing services through the continuum of care (i.e., inpatient, partial hospital and outpatient) preferred. Proficiency in a second language other than English preferred. Specialty training and experience in areas relevant to the UMass Boston student population preferred. Experience with issues of commuter students and residential life preferred. Involvement in efforts to increase student retention, persistence and graduation preferred. One‑two years of experience in teaching and training clinicians preferred. Experience in accreditation process and maintenance, such as APA, AAAHC, JCAHO, or IACS preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Experience in conducting suicide/homicide risk assessment and intervention, crisis intervention and stabilization, case management, care coordination and work with high risk/high acuity clients. Demonstrated commitment to and skill in delivering high-quality, time-effective, evidence-based and culturally responsive evaluation and treatment including triage; crisis emergency assessment and intervention; individual couples and group counseling and therapy; and referral and consultation. Demonstrated experience in providing services to populations typically underserved by traditional counseling centers, such as LGBTQ populations, persons of color, immigrant or refugee populations, ethnic minorities, and first‑generation students. Demonstrated commitment to best practices within the profession and within the college aged population. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Timely and high‑quality clinical documentation. Familiarity and evidence of ability to use an electronic medical record system and standard office productivity software, such as Outlook and Microsoft Office Suite; Demonstrated capacity to relate effectively and harmoniously with students, faculty, staff and administrators, within the organizational and administrative structure of a university counseling center, University Health Services and academic departments. Demonstrated ability to flexibly manage the professional demands of a challenging caseload while maintaining positive and healthy perspectives and relationships. Adherence to standard of care and best practices. Demonstrated commitment and ability to work collaboratively within a team‑oriented environment. Strong organizational and record keeping skills. No. Supervision Received The Staff Psychologist and Coordinator of Clinical Training works under the general clinical and administrative supervision of the University Health Services Co‑Director of Counseling Center and practices within departmental policies, individual privileging and credentialing and licensing procedures. Supervision Exercised The incumbent may provide orientation, training and clinical supervision of graduate students in clinical psychology and/or social work for client contact and documentation, performance evaluations and placement recommendations.
