Avantor is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our Masterflex Manufacturing Engineering team.

This role will be a full-time position based out of our Barrington, IL office.

The Team

Masterflex is leading the global fluidics market manufacturing proprietary products for the complete fluid path. Masterflex provides innovative, connected, and compliant pumps, pump and transfer tubing, flowmeters, controllers, bottle assemblies, and single-use components and assemblies for the pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, food & beverage, and many other industries.

What we're looking for

  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited higher learning institution with an Engineering focus; Electrical Engineering focus preferred

  • Experience: 3+ years' experience with mechanical devices, pneumatics, hydraulics as well as electrical devices and digital electronics is required

    • In depth knowledge in Electro-mechanical and digital electronics fundamentals and troubleshooting

    • Familiarity with the relevant manufacturing electrical testing verification requirements of regulatory agencies, including HiPot, line leakage and ground resistance

    • Familiarity with programming of PLCs

    • Proficient in the use of CAD solid modeling and its use in designing, developing and documenting production tooling and fixturing

    • Proficient in common computer applications for word processing, spreadsheets, data bases, data acquisition and project management

  • Collaboration Tool: Microsoft Office experience required

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Green Belt, Continuous Improvement certification(s) is preferred

How you will thrive and create an impact

Provides engineering support of existing products and assists with the introduction of new products in manufacturing/production by evaluating and implementing tooling and process communication requirements. Plans, devises, and adapts methods to enable or improve manufacturing/production. Examines process equipment and assembly to determine quality revisions and suggests and implements improvements. Solicits quotations from vendors for support and repair of existing equipment and the acquisition of new equipment.

  • Plans and implements tooling and process communication requirements for revisions to existing products to ensure their quality and timely manufacture.

  • Troubleshoots and addresses manufacturing issues with existing products through the engineering change (EC) process.

  • Assists the product development staff in the transition from design release to production through implementation of tooling and process communication requirements for the introduction of new products to ensure their successful and timely manufacture.

  • Verifies and validates new equipment prior to it being used in production.

  • Builds and/or repairs existing internally created testing equipment in manufacturing.

  • Purchases new and replacement tools for manufacturing.

  • Implements ergonomic initiatives in regard to equipment or tooling in manufacturing.

  • Identifies cost reduction opportunities and implements upon approval of the cost reduction.

  • Identifies, designs and/or modifies and documents tooling and fixturing required for assembly.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to travel less than 5%.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Those necessary to perform the job competently)

  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals

  • Knowledge of assembly manufacturing practices for electronic/mechanical products, including design for manufacturing

  • Problem solving skills: the ability to analyze problems by taking a methodical approach to the issue and implementing practical solutions on an expeditious basis

  • Thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, efficiently works under pressure, within deadlines or other time essential constraints
