Associate Athletics Director for Student‑Athlete Welfare and Success The Associate Athletics Director for Student‑Athlete Welfare and Success provides strategic leadership and administrative oversight for all areas related to the holistic development, health, and well‑being of student‑athletes. This position oversees academic services, sports performance and strength‑and‑conditioning, sports nutrition, athletic training/sports medicine, and student‑athlete development programming. The role serves as a key liaison to campus partners in the areas of student conduct, housing, and mental health services, including the BeHERD Mental Health Program. Leadership & Supervision Provide vision, leadership, and supervision to professional staff in the following areas: Academic Advising and Student‑Athlete Support Services Sports Performance and Strength & Conditioning Sports Dietitian/Nutrition Services Athletic Training and Sports Medicine Student‑Athlete Development and Leadership Programming Establish clear expectations, accountability, and professional development opportunities for direct reports. Ensure consistent alignment of departmental efforts with the institution’s mission and NCAA/Sun Belt Conference policies. Student‑Athlete Health, Safety, and Well‑being Oversee the delivery of high‑quality health, safety, and performance services to all student‑athletes. Serve as the department’s primary liaison to university mental health services and lead the coordination of the BeHERD Mental Health program. Collaborate with campus and community providers to enhance access to mental health and wellness resources. Chair or co‑chair the Student‑Athlete Care Team, coordinating cross‑functional support for student‑athletes in distress. Academic and Student Development Provide oversight and strategic direction for academic support and life‑skills programming that promotes graduation, career readiness, and lifelong success. Monitor academic progress and ensure compliance with institutional, conference, and NCAA academic standards. Support leadership, personal development, and community engagement initiatives designed to enhance the student‑athlete experience. Campus and Community Partnerships Serve as Athletics liaison to Student Conduct, Housing and Residence Life, and other campus partners impacting student‑athlete welfare. Collaborate with campus entities to develop proactive education and prevention programs related to student behavior, wellness, and safety. Represent Athletics on university committees related to student well‑being, crisis management, and retention initiatives. Compliance, Policy, and Administration Ensure compliance with all applicable NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations related to student‑athlete welfare. Participate in policy development, risk management, and program evaluation to ensure best practices and accountability. Assist in the development and management of budgets for assigned areas. Prepare reports and presentations for senior leadership and external stakeholders on student‑athlete outcomes and well‑being metrics. Qualifications Required Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in education, sports management, counseling, or related field. Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in athletics administration, student affairs, or related higher education setting. Proven ability to manage sensitive situations with discretion and sound judgment. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Preferred Qualifications Education: Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, or related discipline. Experience: Experience in sport oversight or direct team administration; prior experience in a university or intercollegiate athletics environment. Benefits Work week: 37.5 hours. Winter Break: Employees receive almost two weeks off. Paid Holidays: 13 holidays. Annual and sick leave: Up to 24 days of annual leave per year (max 360 hours) and up to 18 days of sick leave per year. Health insurance: Through West Virginia Public Employees Insurance Agency (PEIA). Seven health benefit plans available. Tuition benefits: Tuition benefits to regular employees (after probationary period) and their dependent children. Retirement: Retirement through Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association (TIAA).
