Overview Merchant & Gould P.C., one of the nation's premier intellectual property law firms, is seeking a Patent Agent for its Chemical/Life Sciences practice area. This position can be located in Minneapolis, Denver, Atlanta, Knoxville, and Washington DC. Responsibilities Patent preparation and prosecution and support for opinion work, including drafting patent applications and client communications with inventors, in-house counsel, and tech transfer offices. Analyze prior art and USPTO Office Actions, and develop persuasive arguments in response to Office Actions in the U.S. and abroad. Qualifications Strong academic credentials and an advanced degree in Chemistry. At least two years of experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications, with strong writing and analytical skills. Candidates with the above experience but without a US Patent Office registration may apply as a technical advisor; passing the patent bar within 2 years of employment is expected. Compensation Our Patent Agent compensation structure includes a base salary (based on a 1600 billable hour target) and a discretionary merit bonus based on performance.
