The VPAA position leads credit and non-credit programming, aligning with the College's vision to be a leader in academic excellence, student success, and economic impact through program development and assessment; budget management, teaching and learning assessment; recommendation of faculty appointment, professional development, academic student support and evaluation; striving for excellence in student outcomes; innovation and collaboration in alignment with the College's strategic imperatives, and adherence to College policy and procedures. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Essential Performance Requirements Assists and advises the Campus President as the principal resource for academic activities for the campus. Collaborates with the office of the Vice Chancellor and Provost and peers to inform and recommend college policies, ensure the development, implementation, communication, and evaluation of the College's curriculum, and support the one college goal.
Establishes and follows through on a course of action for self or others to assure accomplishment of assigned objectives. Exhibits fiscal responsibility by aligning human, physical, and financial resources to institutional priorities and student success goals, with continuous monitoring for operational efficiency. Reviews reports to monitor and make data-informed decisions regarding the status of academic programs and resource management such as personnel and instructional resources. Supports initiatives for credential completion that align with workforce demand and reflect state priorities, while leveraging knowledge of transfer pathways and labor market trends to guide program review and sustainability.
Collaborates with K-12 and university leaders, industry partners, and community stakeholders to develop articulation agreements, co-designed curricula, and academic pathways that align with high-demand workforce needs and regional economic priorities, driving educational and economic advancement. Collaborates with the Vice President of Student Affairs to cultivate a student-centered learning environment that promotes engagement, learning, persistence, progression, completion, and post-completion success; leads academic initiatives such as curriculum design, articulation agreements, and intentional advising partnerships to enhance college, career, and transfer readiness; and drives efforts to reduce barriers to student success by strategically aligning academic offerings with comprehensive wraparound support services. Serves as the academic liaison to accrediting agencies, statewide initiatives, and workforce or university partners and leads in addressing Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requirements for accreditation. Capable of acting as the campus administrator in the absence of the president.
General Supervision and Management Provides leadership for all faculty and staff within Academic Affairs, ensuring excellence through clear performance expectations, professional development, and leadership practices aligned with institutional values, policies, and procedures. Supervises personnel functions, including hiring recommendations, faculty and staff evaluation, management of conduct and performance issues, and advising on personnel matters. Implements accountability measures to ensure that personnel, programs, and activities are managed in accordance with the College's goals, policies, and procedures. Fosters a culture of academic innovation by encouraging faculty to adopt emerging instructional technologies, integrate Open Educational Resources (OER), explore course redesign, and implement competency-based and evidence-based teaching practices that enhance student learning outcomes.
Leads academic business planning and program evaluation in support of institutional effectiveness; coordinates with student affairs and institutional research to align and implement practices that positively impact student outcomes. Leads the determination of course scheduling, assignment of additional work, release time from primary job responsibilities, and pay approvals. Resolves student-related concerns and complaints linked to academic issues. Service Excellence Supports the mission, vision, values, and goals of the College.
Commits to the mission of the comprehensive community college, including understanding the open access, student-centered practices, and programs that support credential attainment and regional workforce development. Models and promotes the College's five core values: Commitment to Excellence, Connection for Belonging, Opportunity in Engagement, Transformation with Innovation, and Trust through Integrity across all aspects of academic leadership. Collaborates with the College community in the implementation of the College's strategic plan. Participates on behalf of the College in external organizations and associations as assigned to support the essential performance requirements.
Maintains a professional presence and actively participates in college-wide and campus-based initiatives. Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through the College. Adheres to College policies, procedures, and applicable safety procedures. Supervision Reports to the Campus President Required Minimum Qualifications Earned doctorate degree from an accredited institution.
At least three (3) years of full-time teaching experience in a credit-bearing post-secondary program. Five (5) years' experience supervising including managing and evaluating the performance of others as an academic administrator at the Department/Division Dean level or above in a community college or university setting. Preferred Qualifications At least five (5) years of full-time teaching experience in a credit-bearing curriculum at the post-secondary level, preferably within a community college. At least one (1) year's working experience leading academic transformation through the implementation of comprehensive educational reform strategies and high-impact practices that enhance student engagement, learning, and completion (e.g. guided pathways, 8-week scheduling, co-requisite support, credential strategies, applied learning, and workforce program alignment).
At least one (1) year's working experience leading change management initiatives that support academic innovation, institutional effectiveness, and student success. At least one (1) year's working experience advancing academic innovation aligned with institutional goals for student success and economic mobility. At least one (1) year's working experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, community partners, K-12 systems, and/or university and industry stakeholders to strengthen student outcomes and drive regional economic impact. At least one (1) year's working experience in the strategic use of data to inform planning and improve performance, thereby building capacity for student success and positive educational outcomes for all students.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal relationships and able to work effectively in a collaborative environment. Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicate problems in a fast-paced environment where the demands for work are varied, and unpredictable in scope and volume. Ability to support data-informed decision-making; knowledge of state accountability frameworks; experience with instructional innovation and planning. Ability to delegate work appropriately to faculty and staff to meet College and campus deliverables.
Ability to use computer applications and enterprise systems, including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software. Ability to travel between campuses, attend meetings in various buildings and off-campus locations, and participate in events with occasional evening or weekend hours.
