Fusco Personnel is recruiting for a Chief Financial Officer for their near-virtual, Puerto Rico-based insurance startup. Utilizing an offshore captive reinsurer and partnering with a respected Insurtech program manager, the organization is preparing to launch a unique insurance product in the United States and other targeted countries. We are in the pre-funding stage and assembling the requisite financial reports and presentations to reach out to investors. We are seeking an experienced insurance chief financial officer with an entrepreneurial spirit to join our team and provide the financial knowledge and analysis to guide our success. As a startup CFO, they must be capable of working independently at multiple levels – from strategic visioning to grass roots score keeping. They should understand both GAAP and statutory accounting practices as well as have experience raising capital and adapting to change. As the organization’s face and voice to the financial community, the CFO must be comfortable in a leadership role that requires clear and effective communication skills.



Role Objectives:

Take responsibility (either directly or via staff) for all cash management, investments, insurance, budgeting, and financial reporting, and help drive the organization’s financial strategy.
Develop annual operating, capital, and program budgets.
Ensure inter-company cash flow is compatible with operations by overseeing day-to-day accounting, recording, reporting, and internal-control activities of the organization.
Develop and implement best practices and tools to ensure a well-controlled yet flexible organization that has strong fiscal management, project coordination, cross-team communications, and workflows.
Comply with national and local financial requirements by studying existing and new legislation and taking appropriate action.



Key Responsibilities:

Financial Strategy and Planning:
Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the company's objectives and long-term vision.
Lead the annual budgeting process and long-range financial planning.
Provide financial insights to support decision-making by the executive team and board of directors.

Financial Reporting and Analysis:
Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
Conduct comprehensive financial analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and risks.
Present financial reports and analysis to the executive team and stakeholders.

Risk Management and Compliance:
Monitor and manage financial risks, including insurance and investment risks.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and financial standards in the insurance industry.
Implement internal controls to safeguard assets and maintain financial integrity.

Investment Management:
Manage the company's investment portfolio, optimizing returns while managing risks.
Evaluate investment opportunities and make recommendations based on financial analysis and risk assessment.

Operations Management:
Oversee day-to-day operations of the holding company and all subsidiaries, including accounting, treasury, tax, and audit functions.
Streamline processes and systems to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Ensure timely and accurate billing, collections, and disbursements.

Team Leadership and Development:
Provide leadership, mentorship, and direction to the team.
Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Identify training and development needs and support the professional growth of team members.




Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related field. MBA or CPA preferred.
Proven experience (10+ years) in a senior finance role within the insurance industry.
Proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other analytics software.
Deep understanding of insurance financial principles, regulations, and best practices.
Strong analytical skills and proficiency in financial modeling and analysis.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
Strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate challenges and develop innovative solutions.
Leadership qualities with a track record of building and motivating high-performing teams.



Preferred Experience:

Managing reinsurance agreements and related accounting
Interaction with captive insurers
Insurance claims, underwriting, technology, or other operational functions

Salary:

$150-250k
