About the Role We are seeking a Applications Engineer to support Nokia’s Field Application Engineering – Pluggable Optics Division. This is an onsite lab‑based position located between San Jose and Sunnyvale, CA. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience working in optical labs, supporting customer demos, configuring routers, and performing automation tasks using Python. Key Responsibilities Set up, configure, and maintain lab hardware including routers, optics, and network devices. Manage fiber optic connections and perform IP network configurations via CLI. Support customer demos, lab trials, and field deployments. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in lab environments. Manage lab inventory, shipping/receiving, IP assignments, and software version tracking. Develop and maintain automation tools and scripts (Python preferred). Collaborate with cross‑functional and remote engineering teams to execute test setups and trials. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Optical Communication. BS with 3 years or MS with 1 year of hands‑on experience in optical networking or related lab environments. Strong understanding of fiber optics and optical transceivers. Proficiency in Python scripting and familiarity with SSH, Telnet, and API‑based automation. Experience with routers, switches (L2/L3), and Unix/Linux environments. Excellent communication and organizational skills with attention to detail. Preferred Skills Knowledge of coherent optical networks and pluggable optics. Experience with test plan creation and execution for optical systems. Work Type 100% Onsite (no hybrid or remote option). Locations Candidate must be flexible to work between both sites (San Jose/Sunnyvale, CA). Background Check Standard background required (no NSA clearance or drug test).
