Business Development Director – AttenuatorsVirtualJob DescriptionPosted Thursday, August 14, 2025 at 4:00 AMBusiness Development Director – AttenuatorsPosition Summary:As Business Development Director for Hill & Smith Highway Attenuators, this role will own and execute the growth strategy for our roadside safety product line, driving revenue and profitability through strategic planning, market development, and key partnership initiatives. The Director will be responsible for expanding existing accounts, identifying and securing new business opportunities, and entering emerging markets. This role will also focus on developing and maintaining strong relationships with current and prospective customers—including state DOTs, contractors, and distributors—while managing product approvals, compliance, and providing technical support to Regional Sales Managers and clients.Additionally, the Director will design and deliver training programs to enhance internal knowledge and external sales capabilities. By staying ahead of market trends, evolving regulations, and customer needs, this role will help shape the future of the company’s roadside safety product offerings and ensure alignment with long-term strategic goals. Serving in a consultative sales capacity, the Director should be recognized as an industry expert and thought leader. This position will act as a trusted advisor to customers and drive the industry forward through insight, innovation, and advocacy.Key Responsibilities:New Business Development : Identify and pursue new business opportunities, projects, and partnerships that support adoption and deployment of our attenuators in both permanent and temporary applications.Consultative Selling : Act as a trusted advisor to customers by understanding their project requirements and providing technical guidance on product capabilities, configurations, and deployment strategies.Strategic Planning : Develops and executes the business development strategy, which aligns with the overall organizational strategy to generate incremental revenue as well as increase profitability.Customer Relationships : Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers in the transportation and construction industries, including government agencies and contractors.Technical Expertise : Stay current with industry standards, safety regulations, and competitive technologies to effectively position our impact attenuators as a high-performance roadside safety solution. File and maintain product approvals with DOTs and provide technical support to RSMs and customers.Training & Education : Conduct presentations, product demonstrations, and training sessions for internal teams, channel partners, and end users to increase understanding and promote safe, effective usage of our products.Case Study Development : Create and present compelling case studies and success stories to showcase product differentiation, real-world performance, and customer ROI, helping drive product preference and trust.Industry Engagement : Actively participate in industry associations, committees, and trade shows to promote Hill & Smith, stay connected to evolving industry needs, and influence industry direction and standards.Cross-Functional Collaboration : Work closely with engineering, product management, and marketing teams to refine product features, gather customer feedback, and influence future product development.Brand Ambassador : Represent the company and the our products brand at events, customer meetings, and public forums to enhance visibility and credibility.Performance Tracking : Monitor sales performance, forecast revenue, and provide periodic updates on market activity and trends to senior leadership.Qualifications and Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or a related field5+ years of business development experience in the transportation safety industry, preferably with highway attenuators or roadside safety hardwareProven track record of driving sales growth and meeting growth targetsExcellent relationship-building, negotiation, and interpersonal skillsStrong understanding of market trends and industry landscapeAble to develop creative solutions to meet customer needsTravel: Up to 70%What We Offer:Competitive compensationHealth, dental, vision, short & long-term disability, and life insurance options401(k) with company matchPaid time off and holidaysSupportive and team-oriented work environmentAbout Hill & Smith:Hill & Smith, Inc. is an industry-leading manufacturer of highway safety products, software, and services committed to protecting the traveling public and enhancing infrastructure safety.
