AVP, Industry Practice Director - Manufacturing, Wholesale, Retail Zurich North America is seeking an AVP Industry Practice Director – Manufacturing, Wholesale & Retail for our growing U.S. Middle Market Business Unit. This role is responsible for advancing the foundational Property and Casualty underwriting framework for our Manufacturing, Wholesale & Retail industries, developing strategy and driving performance at a national level. The AVP will train and support Market‑Facing Underwriters, solve complex problems across the business unit, and collaborate with Industry Practice Leaders, Underwriters, Brokers, Line of Business and Actuarial partners to deliver value. Key Accountabilities Operationalize the underwriting strategy of the Manufacturing, Wholesale & Retail industry practices to deliver growth and profitability. Develop and advance technical standards, controls, and practices for the industry practices. Provide technical underwriting guidance to field underwriting staff through complex queries and referrals. Participate in strategic and operational planning, lending the industry viewpoint. Develop feedback mechanisms to share information across the business. Create solutions for industry trends and opportunities for new products and services. Engage agencies and key relationships in partnership with the Head of Industry, Territory Leaders, and Underwriters, traveling as required. 3>Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree and 8 or more years of experience in Underwriting. High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in Underwriting. Preferred Qualifications Advanced knowledge in underwriting property, general liability, auto, workers compensation, and umbrella within the Manufacturing, Wholesale & Retail space. Ability to manage complex Property and Casualty underwriting portfolios and deliver to target. Proven influence to achieve goals. Experience developing and implementing underwriting strategies for complex offerings. Strong sales skills: relationship building, active listening, win‑win negotiating. Strong leadership presence navigating large organization through influence. Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills. Ability to use Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and embrace new technologies. CPCU, CIC designation. Our pay at Zurich is based on role, location, skills, and experience. The proposed salary range is $113,000 – $185,000, with short‑term incentive bonus eligibility set at 20%. You may also be eligible for bonuses and merit increases.
