This rate includes the vacation factor for a 5.75 hour per day schedule (4.375‑hour workday). The school day is Monday – Friday, 8:15 am – 2:45 pm, 182 workdays with 14 district holidays. Position Details Seniority level: Entry level Employment type: Full‑time Job function: Education and Training Industries: Education Administration Programs Responsibilities Assist instructional personnel in assigned instructional areas. Tutor individual students and small groups of students with special learning needs to reinforce and follow up learning and training activities. Assist in shaping appropriate social behaviors and manage acting‑out student behavior using positive reinforcement strategies. Operate and assist students with instructional aids, computer assisted instruction equipment, and software programs. Monitor and remediate specific learning problems and conditions. Administer medication in accordance with medical instructions. Perform routine first aid and request assistance for non‑routine injury or illness. Observe and monitor children with handicapping conditions and request appropriate assistance for pupils experiencing distress. Maintain an orderly, attractive, and positive learning environment. Participate in parent conferences and student progress report activities. Provide skill‑building activities for children with language and hearing disorders. Interact with students, encouraging performance, observing progress and meeting instructional and behavioral needs. Share observations with the teacher and maintain confidentiality. Assist with campus supervision, discipline, material preparation, record‑keeping, supply acquisition, and media equipment use. Perform screen‑testing when requested. Follow accepted school principles, practices, rules, and regulations. Attend job‑related in‑services, conferences, and staff meetings. Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Must meet the requirements of No Child Left Behind. Knowledge of correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Knowledge of special needs and behavior of assigned students. Knowledge of basic child growth and development concepts, especially for pupils with special learning needs. Knowledge of behavior management strategies and techniques for typical control problems. Work well with adults and children. Understand and carry out written and oral instructions. Work with minimal supervision. Perform routine clerical tasks or operate a variety of educational and office‑related machines and equipment. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children and adults. Physical Demands The employee must stand, walk, use hands, reach with arms, talk or hear, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift up to 25 lb and occasionally lift up to 50 lb with assistance. Specific vision abilities required include close color and ability to adjust focus. Noise level is usually moderate. Education and Experience Previous experience working with children in an organized setting, preferably as a paraprofessional (instructional aide). Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, preferably with training or coursework in child growth and development, special education, instructional technology, or a closely related field.
