Geisingers Eye Institute is seeking an additional Optometrists (doctor of optometry, OD) to join their practice in Danville, Pennsylvania. We also have opportunities in Pittston PA and Wilkes-Barre, PA.

  • Geisingers Eye Institute is a driven, successful and growing multi-specialty group with both optometrists and ophthalmologists, including Cataract / Comprehensive as well as subspecialists in Retina, Glaucoma, Cornea, Oculoplastics, and pediatrics.

  • Experience or Residency training preferred
  • Our highly trained Optometrists practice medical optometry, to the highest scope of practice, working closely and co-managing patients with our ophthalmologists.
  • State of the art diagnostic testing, including OCT, Pentacam, Visual Fields, and Optos Fundus photography

Position Details:

An optometrist is a doctor of optometry, an OD. A health care professional who is licensed to provide primary eye care services. Optometrists examine and diagnose eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts and retinal diseases; diagnose related systemic (body-wide) conditions such as hypertension and diabetes that may affect the eyes; examine, diagnose and treat visual conditions such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia; and prescribe glasses, contact lenses, low-vision rehabilitation and medications. Optometrists also perform minor surgical procedures such as the removal of foreign bodies.

 

  • Interviews patients to obtain information such as symptoms, medical histories, and family histories. Performs and/or interprets diagnostic tests as needed.
  • Diagnose and design a plan of treatment for injuries and/or illness. May prescribe or administer medications. Prepares, maintains, and reviews records that include patients' histories, examination findings, treatment plans, or outcomes.
