Way back in 1986, before craft brewing was even cool, Summit Brewing Company Founder and President Mark Stutrud set out in St. Paul, Minnesota, to make craft beers inspired by old-world brewing traditions and ingredients. POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Area Sales Manager (ASM) is responsible for distributor and key retailer management within the assigned territory. The ASM will manage distributors and Area Sales Representatives (ASR) to develop and implement comprehensive sales plans that promote sales growth, customer satisfaction, brand loyalty, and overall market share. This position reports to the Sales Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND OUTCOMES:
Sales Team Management
- Lead, coach, and mentor direct report(s) to develop effective and efficient strategies and further professional development.
- Conduct weekly meetings with ASR team to ensure alignment with current and future distribution goals, volume updates, market trends
- Conduct annual performance reviews for all direct reports.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with key distributors, independent retailers and chain accounts as assigned.
- Ensure distributors are properly managing sales within assigned territory(ies) by conducting monthly business review meetings. Provide meeting recap to Distributors and Sales Director within 48 hours, including all updated agreements, plans, goals etc.
- Communicate and record account-level execution findings and necessary follow-up to distributor(s) within 48 hours of site visit.
- Coordinate industry events (festivals, tradeshows etc.) to promote brand awareness within designated territories, attending as necessary.
- Collaborate to develop and present Summit Brewing's Annual Business Plan (ABP) to wholesalers, securing commitments on distribution targets, volume goals, distributor spending levels, brand standards and all other key business objectives.
- Analyze data on pricing, distribution and volume on a monthly basis. Report findings to Sales Director, making suggestions as necessary.
- In a timely manner, submit expense reports, update calendar(s), complete team management duties, other administrative tasks etc.
- Secure orders on POS items needed to properly execute programs in the designated market.
- Adhere to all Summit policies and standards in order to maintain a safe and welcoming work environment for all.
- Other duties and special projects as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Three or more years' sales management experience required; Bachelor's degree in related field strongly preferred; or equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Experience with training curriculum development and delivery required.
- Strong understanding of the three-tier system is preferred.
- Craft brewing industry experience strongly preferred.
- Able to perform administrative functions with a computer in applications such as/similar to Word, Excel, Outlook, VIP, Karma, and Power Point.
- Able to sit or stand for the length of workday.
- Able to work in conditions typical of both indoor and outdoor environments (cool, warm, or hot, humid or wet, etc.), and moderate to loud environments.
- Able to frequently push, pull, lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds and occasionally push, pull, lift and/or move objects up to 160 pounds.
