A top Am Law 50 client is seeking an attorney with a minimum of 3 years of experience in data privacy law to join their growing Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity practice. This exciting position, based in the firm's Chicago office, offers qualified candidates the opportunity to work on cutting-edge legal matters, take on significant responsibility, and have direct exposure to clients. The role involves collaborating with experienced privacy and cybersecurity attorneys both in the U.S. and internationally.


This Am Law Top 50 firm’s Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity group provides comprehensive counsel to a broad range of clients, from Fortune 500 companies to start-ups, across industries including technology, fintech, healthcare, retail, and entertainment. In this position, the successful candidate will work on a variety of data protection issues such as cross-border transfers, product compliance, cookies and adtech, regulatory investigations, ransomware incidents, and corporate transactions while navigating complex and evolving privacy regulations.


The ideal candidate will be self-driven with a strong grasp of both U.S. and global data protection legal frameworks, technical fluency in Internet operations, excellent communication and writing skills, and a proven ability to deliver exceptional client service. This is a partner-track position.


Key Qualifications:

  • Active admission to the Illinois bar, with excellent academic credentials.
  • At least 3 years of experience specializing in data protection legal matters.
  • Expertise advising on privacy compliance with CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, ePrivacy Directive, FTC Act, and other global privacy regulations, with additional consideration for sector-specific experience in industries such as financial services, telecom, or digital advertising; knowledge of HIPAA, FCRA, GLBA, COPPA, TCPA, and CAN-SPAM is a plus.
  • Experience drafting and revising privacy notices, incident response plans, terms of service, and other security policies.
  • Proficiency in negotiating professional services agreements, vendor contracts, data processing agreements, and cross-border transfer agreements.
  • Experience advising on privacy and security-related due diligence in corporate transactions.
  • Proven ability to lead data breach preparation, risk mitigation, and incident response efforts.
  • IAPP CIPP certification (U.S. and EU) is strongly preferred.
