ABOUT THE OFFICE: Pursuant to Article 18-B of the County Law, the Assigned Counsel Plan (ACP), in consultation with the Presiding Justices of the 1st and 2nd Appellate Divisions, has been providing quality legal services to indigent persons since 1966. All services provided by the Assigned Counsel Plan are funded by the New York State Office of Indigent Legal Services and the City of New York through the Office of Criminal Justice. ACP provides compensation to private attorneys representing indigent clients charged with criminal offenses. Attorneys are assigned matters by the Administrator's office when a conflict exists prohibiting the institutional providers from providing representation. ABOUT THE ROLE: The Program Coordinator for Training will provide technical and logistical support to the training program for Assigned Counsel Plan Attorneys in the First and 2nd Judicial Departments. The ideal candidate will have administrative experience handling tasks such as meetings, registration, and document preparation in an office setting. The Program Coordinator will work as a member of a team to develop and deliver substantive and skills-based training to Assigned Counsel Plan attorneys in five counties. Under the supervision of the Supervising Attorney for Training (ACP) the job responsibilities of the Program Coordinator for Training include, but are not limited to: Scheduling both in-person and virtual training on a variety of topics related to criminal defense. Maintaining a calendar of Continuing Legal Education (CLE) offerings for ACP Central Office staff and for ACP panel attorneys. Conducting in-person registration at live events and verifying attendance at virtual events. Collecting and disseminating education materials for CLE courses. Preparing and distributing certificates of attendance for those attending Continuing Legal Education events sponsored by ACP. Maintaining records on subject content and attendance necessary for the filing of reports with the Continuing Legal Education Board of the State of New York. Coordinating with technology specialists at live CLE presentations and virtual presentations. Hosting online CLEs on Zoom Webinar. Arranging for the use of venues for large-scale events. Responding to inquiries from panel members and others who attend CLE events sponsored by ACP. Other duties as assigned. COMMUNITY COORDINATOR - 56058 Minimum Qualifications A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above. Preferred Skills Associate Degree or Bachelor's Degree in a field related to Criminal Justice or Education. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, One Note). Excellent organizational, time-management, and multi-tasking skills including the ability to take initiative, prioritize duties, work independently and within a team environment, e attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines, work well under pressure, and maintain an enthusiastic work ethic. Strong organizational, analytical, writing, and proofreading skills Prior experience supporting a training program in the office of an institutional provider such as the Legal Aid Society, a district attorney's office, or a state or city agency is a plus. Familiarity with legal search databases such as LexisNexis and/or Westlaw is a plus.
