Job Summary

The Business Analyst works closely with IT, end users and business stakeholders to become the subject matter expert in the assigned business area- including users, features and processes- to gain a deep understanding of the application and the business process it supports. Facilitates communication between IT and other operations and business departments as assigned, working as the product owner in an Agile development framework. Makes recommendations and leads work and projects to ensure systems meet the needs of customers/end users and drives value for the business, creating the user stories and features to support the IT team in the delivery of new functionality and bug fixes.

Reporting to business, works directly with IT on a day-to-day basis on communication and prioritization of needs, based on partnership with end users and business stakeholders. Makes recommendations for innovative software features as needed to accommodate new and enhanced business processes. Responsible for collecting timely feedback from end users, scheduling meetings as needed, for purposes of continuous improvement and to keep all projects on track.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Project Management & Analysis Tasks:

Works with business managers, stakeholders, and end users to define system and project needs/ requirements
Becomes subject matter expert for the product(s), proactively seeking new knowledge and user input
Defines features and creates detailed user stories for IT to fully evaluate scope, level of effort and timing
Responsible for managing and prioritizing the product backlog management for future development
Understands the company vision, delivering new/enhanced features that support strategic initiatives
Communicates project needs, and responsible for ongoing communication through completion
Schedules and runs meetings as needed, to facilitate the forward movement of projects
Sets timelines in conjunction with management and IT feedback, tracks progress of work, communicating to all parties along the way
Offers suggestions and brings recommendations for next steps and improvements, and facilitates the completion of projects in a holistic manner
Participates in, and/or leads special projects as assigned- creating and mapping the user stories to deliver new capabilities for end users
Locates and defines new process improvement opportunities, and works with management to prioritize business and information needs

Internal Support:

Assists with custom system or data needs, as needed
Evaluates and develops the need and scope of internal requests as needed, and is responsible for work being clearly communicated to IT and being completed
Develops and assists in implementation of strategies to optimize efficiency and quality in products, keeping end-user needs at top of mind
Communicates regular product updates and timing of enhancements and ongoing projects to leadership and executive teams, in a summary format
Assists with and coordinates end user testing to help ensure the delivery of quality products

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; minimum four years relevant, related experience
Demonstrated history of delivering products and features through formal and detailed story writing, providing scope details, background/context and acceptance criteria
Knowledge of the Agile software development process, leveraging Azure DevOps, for IT projects
Six Sigma or similar process improvement certification or experience
Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), or other scrum/ agile certification or experience
Experience with process mapping or value stream mapping preferred

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Strong interpersonal skills to ensure excellent internal and external customer service.
Excellent written and verbal skills.
Ability to write business correspondence, and professional presentations
Effectively deliver information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
Highly motivated, strong initiative, self-starter with team focus.
Detail oriented, ability to navigate ambiguous requests and set a path for understanding and solutioning
Strong organizational skills, and ability to prioritize and multi-task

REASONING ABILITY

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.

The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed clearly and understandably both in person and over telephone.

Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and making fine discriminations in sound.

Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
