SUBSTATION SUPERVISOR

(Current opening is in the Substation, Support, and Vegetation Management section of the Power System Operations Department)

1. Minimum Certification Requirements

High school diploma or General Education Diploma is required.

Eight years of journeyman level experience in construction and maintenance of underground and substation distribution facilities is required. Three years of experience overseeing the work of others is required.
  • Employees who receive a positive drug or alcohol test result within the past 12 months prior to posting will not certify for the job.
  • Employees who have less than a "2.5" overall job performance on their last performance appraisal will not certify for the job.
  • Employees who receive a disciplinary suspension within the past 12 months of posting will not certify for the job.
  • Employees who fail or did not take the most recent Safety Manual Test will not certify for any job that would be a promotion.


2. Examples of Duties and Responsibilities

a. Plan, schedule and supervise the activities of the section. Ensure proper training and development, monitor progress and evaluate employees. Recommend action to accomplish Affirmative Action and Equal Employment Opportunity objectives.

b. Plan and coordinate work for crews to install, maintain, and repair substation structures, conductors, and equipment. Supervise and oversee substation projects. Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, maps, and schematics to accomplish work. Attend job construction meetings as necessary.

c. Supervise the maintenance, testing, ordering, disposal, and documentation of NERC related substation batteries and equipment.

d. Prepare reports such as timesheets, material sheets damage reports, injury reports, and incident investigation reports.

e. Schedule jobs and allocate materials. Coordinate delivery of materials and equipment required for jobs. Oversee the handling and disposal of hazardous materials.

f. Coordinate work with developers, contractors, customers, engineering, and the Work Planning Group.

g. Communicate with employees, customers, and other entities through personal contact, telephone, radio, writing, or electronic means to provide information or answer questions related to the area of responsibility. Investigate, respond, and resolve employee or customer problems and complaints within company guidelines and policies.

h. Obtain clearances and perform switching activities and properly tag electrical equipment in compliance with safety rules and procedures.

i. Perform work in a safe manner to protect employees, the public, and property. Enforce safety rules and ensure work is performed in accordance with approved safe work practices. Conduct investigations, retain evidence, and complete appropriate documentation.

3. Working Conditions

The working environment of this job includes physical surroundings that are undesirable. There is regular or extreme exposure to multiple disagreeable elements or hazards. This job demands moderate physical effort. Regularly moves or lifts medium weight objects (15 - 40 pounds). Frequently walks or stands for significant periods. May require recurring bending, crouching, stretching or reaching.

4. Additional Requirements

Note: The selection process for this position will involve behavioral interviews.

Subject to 24-hour call.

5. Special Licensing and Certification

Must have a valid Class D driver's license from state of residence in accordance with state law.

NOTE:

The current Minimum rate is $121,451.20 annually, and the Maximum rate is $182.166.40 annually. NOTE: Pay rates are effective July 12, 2024.
