GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Provides advanced (senior level) vocational nursing work. Work involves providing for the care, treatment, and general welfare of patients, to include pharmacological management, EKGs, medication training/support, monitoring vitals/height/weight, ordering labs, and blood draws. May plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others. May train others. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. May be assigned to provide support to prescribers conducting services via telemedicine.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides support to prescribing staff and attends to all nursing services associated with the provision of telemedicine services.
Responsible for patient record reviews to include medication consents and all forms as specified by Texas Administrative Codes (TAC) pertinent to the provision of medical services.
Responsible for accurate and timely documentation of all services rendered.
Administers medication orally and by injection, according to prescribing staff orders.
Must be able to accept, document, and implement verbal, written, and telephonic orders from prescribing staff.
Must be able to clearly communicate, both verbally and in writing, consumer needs to the appropriate interdisciplinary team member.
Must be able to perform mental and physical nursing assessments as required, and report findings to prescribers.
Must be able to follow all proper precautions as required for infection control, and provides consultation for Quality Management, as needed.
Must be able to implement nursing interventions and consults with the interdisciplinary team to ensure quality care for all clients.
Must be able to perform EKGs and document the results and report the results accurately to prescribing staff.
Must be able to collect specimens, including blood, breath, and urine for laboratory screenings. Reviews and documents results. Reports findings to prescriber and carries out any needed interventions as ordered by prescribing staff. Advises consumers and monitors concerns regarding screening and lab results and other specific health concerns.
Must be able to accurately measure and record vital signs including height, weight, body mass index, pulse, blood pressure, and temperature.
Provides clinical nursing expertise and assistance as necessary. Serves as a resource for other non-nursing staff.
Must review client records to ensure appropriate time for medication refill and release and accurately document medication release to clients in both Doctors Homepage and client record, as required.
Must assist prescribers in prescription preparation.
Monitors, supervises, and records consumers Self Administration of Medications.
May participate in peer reviews.
Must communicate effectively with outside agencies including pharmacies and other health care facilities on behalf of our agency.
Must obtain and maintain competency in the utilization of facility programs including MD Cares, Anasazi, and Doctors Homepage and act as a resource for other staff in the utilization of these programs, as necessary.
May train others.
Must maintain competency in required training/licensures/certifications.
Performs related work as assigned.
Demonstrate high ethical standards, trustworthiness, and personal integrity. Regular attendance, dependability, and promptness are required for the 8-5 work day or agreed upon hours 100% of the time, to ensure consistency and completeness of programs processes.
Professional Development - Successfully complete training required to maintain skill competency and cross training to ensure consistency across program procedures. Complete continuing education as required by professional standards and the Center.
Frequent daily driving within the catchment area is required.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

Experience/Education/Licensing/Certification

One year or more experience in nursing work and nursing experience working with mental health clients preferred.
Six months to one year related experience and /or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school;
Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent required, and graduation from an approved vocational or practical nursing education program is preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
Must be licensed as a Licensed Vocational Nurse by the State of Texas or in a party state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
