CEA A, Deputy District Director, Planning and Local Assistance Department of Transportation Job Description and Duties This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate. Under the general direction of the District Director, the incumbent serves as the chief advisor on the delivery of the District’s Transportation Planning and Local Assistance Programs including, but not limited to, the following program components: Multimodal Programs (Active Transportation and Transit), Modeling and Travel Forecasting, Regional and System Planning, Development Review, Geospatial Information System (GIS), Native American Liaison, International Border Studies, Freight Planning, Climate Change and Sustainability Programs, and Local Assistance. Provide examples of your previous work experience that demonstrate your ability to plan, organize, and direct a professional staff, represent the Department on transportation planning matters, participate in public forums, and serve in a consulting and coordinating capacity with other departmental functional areas. Provide examples of your previous work experience that demonstrate your ability to think strategically, review systemic factors related to program effectiveness such as organization, workflow, quality controls, and availability of necessary resources, and to develop and implement workable solutions. Provide examples of your previous work experience that demonstrate your ability to work cooperatively with, build, and strengthen partnerships with Caltrans’ internal and external customers including city and county government, regional planning organizations, state and federal agencies, tribal governments, elected officials, and industry advisory groups.
