Position Summary:

The Clinical Resource Nurse (CRN) assists Nursing Leadership in education of nursing personnel to ensure consistent standards of practice and competencies in the delivery of patient care services on an assigned shift. The CRN will be expected to provide direct patient care in the Critical Care unit as determined by the AVP or the CNO. The CRN understands the needs of the organization and supports the mission values and management of patient care services.

Qualifications:

Education:
  • Associate degree (AD) in Nursing
  • Bachelor's Degree (BS) in a healthcare related specialty field preferred.
  • Master's degree (MS) in Management or a health-related field preferred.

Experience:
  • A minimum of five (5) years of Critical Care experience.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:
  • South Carolina Registered Nurse, in good standing
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Conducts patient rounding on all transitions of care out of the CCU. Collaborates with the primary RN for any questions and or concerns.
  • Responds to all Inpatient Rapid Responses and Inpatient Codes.
  • Responds to all emergency codes and reports and documents any needs/ problems related to staff readiness, response, and competency.
  • Responds to all inpatient falls and facilitates fall huddle at the unit level.
  • Supports the primary nurse in their plan of care, ability to direct and provide in-time care.
  • Collaborates with nursing staff when requested or needed in assessing more complex patient conditions, interpreting physician orders/diagnostic reports, and consulting physicians; assists nursing staff with any unfamiliar or new nursing procedures, treatments, or equipment as needed.
  • Collaborates with others regarding admitting, discharging, and transferring patients as needed non-emergent situations.
  • Collaborates with department managers in problem-solving related to patient and personnel concerns.
  • Facilitates in-time education, monitoring, and evaluation of the departmental staff, as directed.
  • Work collaboratively as a team member with the Supervisor and the clinical staff, to provide a high-quality and efficient service to patients.
  • Participates in quality improvement team efforts, including meetings to discuss quality assurance improvement initiatives.
  • Assists with assigned special projects or accountabilities when other priorities are identified.
  • Participates in planning and implementing goals and action plans related to patient care and nursing practices.
  • Participates in the planning and implementation of nursing service line goals
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues, physicians, department heads, and members of executive leadership. Consults with appropriate Nursing Director and AVP.
  • Participates in 75% of council, team and unit meetings as assigned.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Consistently display exemplary core customer service skills.
  • Display strong organizational skills.
  • Regularly utilize strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exercise independent judgement in emergency situations.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by department leadership

  • The CRN will actively engage peers and clinicians in highest standards of practice, following policies/procedure and carrying out quality based efficient safe care.

Working Conditions:
  • Occasional exposure to difficult patients.
  • Potential exposure to blood borne and airborne pathogens.
  • Stress level high due to multiple demands frequently occurring simultaneously.
  • Occasional exposure to bio-hazardous materials.
  • Physical surroundings are generally pleasant and comfortable.
  • Prolonged standing and walking required.
