Position Overview:

The primary purpose of the Admissions Nurse is to facilitate and evaluate therapeutic, medical, and financial arrangements of incoming chemically dependent patients and/or family members.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Provides appropriate orientation to program aspects after admission, including documentation and data input into computer system. Assures prompt responses to patient needs reviews and maintains all documents and departmental logs. Provides in person assessments and initial contact with referral sources and potential patients, coordinates the referral sources, families, patients, and unit staff. Collect and analyze data related to departmental performance indicators. Assist counselor and other senior program staff in crisis intervention and needed. Completes admissions nursing assessments as well as consents and initial paperwork. Assists in getting initial insurance authorizations as needed. Completes admissions safety searches, skin checks and physical exams including vital signs. May administer medications according to organization policy. Verifies the electronic medication administration record for correct medication and administration times. Monitors behavioral changes which may be related to medication administration. QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Current Licensed Practical Nurse licensure with the State Board of Nursing. Current Registered Nurse licensure preferred. 2 years working in a substance abuse service preferred. Current CPR or BLS certification preferred (or must complete during orientation period). Knowledge of HIPAA regulations. Ability to safely administer medications. Excellent organizational skills and negotiation skills with the ability to interact on a professional level with all levels of staff. Demonstrated strong customer service skills. Flexible and able to address multiple issues simultaneously. Proficient with Microsoft Office preferred. Critical thinking skills and ability to formulate accurate nursing assessment. Understanding of ASAM criteria and levels of care Competency in performing CLIA waived testing. Proficiency in screening/assessing for suicide ideation and aggression. Customer Service: Demonstrates concern for meeting internal and external customers' needs in a manner that provides satisfaction for the customer within the resources that can be made available. Impact and Influence: Works effectively with and through others including those whom there is no formal authority over. Project Management: Coordinates the diverse components of the project by balancing scope, time, cost, and quality. Communication: Communicates well both verbally and in writing, creates accurate and punctual reports, delivers presentations, shares information and ideas with others, has good listening skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work Environment: May work in a variety of environments e within the substance disorder treatment facility. They spend much of their time on their feet, actively working with patients. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk, sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to administer at least 2 consecutive minutes of quality CPR.

Travel: Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected
