Job Title: Assistant Director of Nursing

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Assistant Director of Nursing to join our team at Hooverwood Living. As a key member of our nursing department, you will be responsible for assisting the Director of Nursing in the overall organization, administration, and control of the nursing department.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Director of Nursing in the establishment, interpretation, and implementation of facility and nursing standards, policies, practices/procedures, and regulations.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation for Nursing Administration as requested by the Director of Nursing.
  • Assist with the development, maintenance, and auditing of an effective system of documentation and reporting by nursing personnel.
  • Coordinate inservice education programs for all departments based on resident and staff needs.
  • Oversee annual skills certification for QMAs and Licensed Staff.
  • Assist with all staff-related issues, including employee performance evaluations and disciplinary action.
  • Communicate resident and family concerns to the appropriate departments.
  • Assume the charge of any nursing unit in case of licensed nurse shortage.
  • Assist with Board of Health survey and plan of correction as requested by the Director of Nursing or Administrator.
  • Making daily rounds to all nursing units, visiting patients, reviewing clinical records, patient care plans, and 24-hour supervisor's reports.
  • Attend inter-departmental meetings and conferences, Quality Assurance, Fall Committee, Admission, IDT, and Medical Staff meetings.
  • Receiving reports from Night Supervisor and/or day shift Unit Manager in regards to occurrences on night shift and giving report to the Evening Nursing Supervisor.
  • Hold scheduled meetings of all unit managers and other nursing staff as needed.
  • Conferring with the Evening and Night Nursing Supervisors as needed to ensure continuity of care.
  • Coordinate administration and tracking of all employee, volunteer, and resident Hepatitis, Flu, TB skin tests, and any other required immunization.
  • Maintain current employee TB skin test records in conjunction with the HR Nursing Coordinator.
  • Assist and report various Quality Assurance activities as directed by the Director of Nursing.
  • Assist in the admission process and consultation on unit placement for all potential admissions and transfers.
  • Oversee Infection Prevention and Control program as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Monitor occurrences of infection, patient population, the types of infections involved, and the causes and treatment of infection in order to analyze and address continuing improvements in the operation and control of preventable diseases.
  • Follow all guidelines set out by the CDC and CMS, as well as other licensing agencies, to assure the facility is operating optimally to reduce the occurrence of preventable infections.
  • Responsible for the initial and ongoing training of staff on infection prevention.
  • Responsible for all required reporting in regards to infection control.
  • Coordinate, track, and follow up on all infection prevention-related call-ins by all employees.
  • Establish accepted standards and develop, implement, monitor, and revise infection control policies and procedures to assure compliance with all standards.
  • The Assistant Director of Nursing must respond to any emergency code called and must readily come to the premises if an institutional emergency or disaster occurs.
  • Cannot pose a direct threat to the health and safety of other individuals in the workplace.
  • The Assistant Director of Nursing shall fully comply with all aspects of Hooverwood's Corporate Compliance program and its Code of Conduct.
  • If called upon, other management duties as may be assigned by the Administrator or the Director of Nursing, including supervising the entire facility should higher-level Administrative Officers be temporarily unavailable.
  • Perform any activity or task that a nursing assistant and/or licensed nurse under her direction may be called upon to do.

Requirements:

  • Nursing degree from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Previous management experience preferred.
  • Must function effectively under timelines and multiple demands.
  • Must be able to read normal print/script and computer-generated type.
  • Must be ambulatory.
