As part of this community, the Facilities Division designs, constructs and maintains a dynamic, safe, and sustainable campus to continually advance its nationally benchmarked living and learning community. This position is responsible for maintaining journey level work in the plumbing trade, install, replace, repair and/or perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on university plumbing systems and equipment.
The selected candidate must possess, at the time of application, or obtain, within 18 months of the date of hire, a valid certification issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater System Operators as a water or wastewater operator that is equal to or greater than the classification and sub classification of the water/wastewater system to be operated or maintained. Certification must be continuously maintained for the duration of employment in the position.
Responsibilities include:
- Inspects installs, repairs and replaces pipes, fittings and plumbing fixtures to maintain the heating water, gas and plumbing systems of the University
- Performs skilled tasks in laying out, installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing fixtures and systems
- Estimates labor, costs, and materials via blueprints and physical inspections
- Inspects all connections and other parts of plumbing system for leaks
- Replaces defective pipe by cutting, bending, threading and assembling pipe
- Solders and caulks leaks and broken pipes
- Assemble and install piping, fittings, and valves
- Install, maintain, repair, DW, and DHW systems and their components. i.e. water heaters, pumps, relief valves, elements
- Install fixture supports and hangers
- Install, repair, and maintain underground piping systems i.e. sanitary/storm and water mains
- Opens clogged drains with plumber's snake or vacuum plunger
- Replaces worn washers or other parts in leaky valves or taps
- Repairs or replaces damaged plumbing fixtures such as sinks, faucets, flushometers, toilets, showers and bathtubs and/or connects them to outlet and inlet pipes by fitting gaskets, couplings, traps and valves, and soldering connections to seal joints where necessary
- Knowledge of flow, pressure, and capacity of plumbing systems
- Three years of experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing components and fixtures
- An equivalent combination of experience and training
- Valid Driver's License
- Five years' experience as a plumber
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform duties while bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, reaching and climbing.

As a member of the Facilities Divisional staff, this position is deemed "essential" and must remain or report to work during partial or full day closings of the University due to hazardous road conditions, emergency circumstances or for other reasons.
