GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:


This position is responsible for providing maintenance to the mold and segments for the casting machines. Primarily disassembling and rebuilding them. This position is responsible for finding cause of failure and documenting it. The work in the shop is coordinated, as the casters require it. The Mechanic works as a team member on his/her maintenance crew, which includes Mechanical and Mill Wright skills.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


  1. Repairs or replaces defective or damaged components on the molds and segments. This includes identifying, finding and retrieving the part(s) from spares and install as needed.

  1. Completely fill out all checklists during disassembly and assembly of all molds and segments.

  1. Reports major equipment problems requiring engineering services to the Shift Leader assigned to the shift being worked.

  1. Fills out PM check sheets where required.

  1. Performs housekeeping in all areas of the caster as required.

  1. Performs any miscellaneous jobs assigned either verbally or written by Leader, Group Leader, Supervisors, Engineers, or Managers of the Maintenance Department.

  1. Maintain a clean and safe work area.

  1. Plant support to perform work on the Slab and Billet Casters, as well as any other lines as assigned during major outages and/or when special circumstances require it.


SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Other duties as assigned
  2. Participation in relevant continuous improvement programs.


MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:


  1. A Minimum of a High School Degree or Equivalent (GED)
  2. Two year industrial experience and/or technical degree in the related field

PHYSICAL ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Mobility in plant
  • While performing the duties of (this job), the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, etc.
  • The employee is frequently required to make use of their hands for technical tasks
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Visual ability with or without correction
  • Communication abilities

HEALTH AND SAFETY:

  1. Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations
  2. Follow Company safety rules
  3. Report the absence of or defect in any protective equipment or clothing to the Supervisor or Manager immediately
  4. Use or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that is required to be used or worn:
    1. Safety shoes
    2. Safety glasses
    3. Hearing protection
    4. Hard Hat

Some areas may require additional personal protective equipment such as:

  1. Respirators; the respirator requires you to be clean shaven in order to comply with company policies and procedures as well as OSHA Regulations.
  2. Fire Retardant clothing
  3. Acid PPE
  1. Report to the Safety Coordinator, Group Lead or Supervisor any contravention of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations or Company policy
  2. Must follow all Lock out Tag out (LOTO) guidelines for designated machines
  3. Must follow all Environmental Policies and Regulations
  4. Maintain a clean and safe work area

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  2. Clean, well ventilated and safe work areas.
