In this role, you will develop accessible, responsive, and maintainable user experiences for high‑impact government services. You will collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers in an agile environment to deliver high‑quality software that meets our users’ needs. This is a fully remote, full‑time position. Roles And Responsibilities Key Responsibilities: Full‑Stack Feature Development: Contribute to the full‑stack development of responsive and highly accessible features, including building critical user flows such as form flows, data reporting and collections, and user access management. Design System Contribution: Actively contribute to and maintain frontend standards, potentially supporting the future development and adoption of the MD Web Design System (MDWDS) via Web Components (Lit). Collaboration & Mentorship: Work cross‑functionally with engineers, designers, and product managers to refine technical requirements and drive value for end‑users. Quality & Standards: Lead by example in code quality, participate in code reviews, and uphold maintainability and accessibility standards. Technical Alignment: Maintain strong technical judgment and clear communication to ensure development efforts align with overall business and project goals. What You’ll Bring Required Skills & Experience Ruby on Rails proficiency: Deep experience with Rails, especially leveraging ERB templates for frontend output. Modern frontend expertise: Proficiency in JavaScript, modern CSS (Sass/SCSS, CSS‑in‑JS), and browser‑native Web Components. Accessibility & responsiveness: Practical experience with modern web accessibility practices (WCAG) and responsive design. Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for both technical and non‑technical audiences. Preferred Skills & Experience 4‑8 years of professional experience supporting Ruby on Rails with frontend UI in production. Experience designing, building, or maintaining shared component libraries or design systems used across multiple teams. Proficiency in Ruby on Rails using ERB templates and front‑end development (JavaScript, modern CSS, Web Components). Experience with federal or state government design systems like USWDS or static site generators such as Eleventy. Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently and within a team. Experience working in an agile environment and passion for building high‑quality software. Educational Background Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree will be considered a plus. Stakeholder Communication Foster open communication with stakeholders, providing regular updates on project status and milestones. Act as a point of contact between clients, stakeholders, and development teams. Communicate regularly with product managers, executives, and customers to keep them informed of progress and address concerns. Cross‑Functional Collaboration Collaborate with various departments to ensure the seamless integration of technologies and solutions. Facilitate problem‑solving sessions to address complex challenges and foster innovation. All work must be conducted within the U.S., excluding U.S. territories. Some federal contracts require U.S. citizenship to be eligible for employment. You must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. now and in the future without sponsorship. As the U.S. Government is our clientele, you may be required to obtain a public trust or security clearance. Some of our available roles are on federal contracts that require a degree or additional years of experience as a substitute.
