Job Title: Sr. Director of Distribution and Transportation
Position Location: Villa Rica, GA

Position Summary

The Sugar Foods Corporation is a privately owned company with production facilities in Georgia, California, and Mexico. Our products are sold and distributed throughout the U.S. and Canada. Sugar Foods manufactures and packages croutons, tortilla chips, crispy toppings, as well as cheese-based toppings. Additionally, Sugar Foods packages a variety of items including sugar, sweeteners, powdered creamer, and dried fruits and nuts.

This position will report to the COO. This role will be responsible for the overall effectiveness, efficiency and productivity of Sugar Foods distribution and transportation networks. Working with others this role will be responsible for driving sustainable operating cost reductions in the distribution and transportation networks while maintaining the service levels and quality our customers have come to expect from Sugar Foods. At the same time this role will build an entrepreneurial culture amongst the teams and empower leaders in the distribution and transportation organization to develop and bring forward ideas and solutions to various issues that may come up from time to time. The individual in this role will oversee and be responsible for the four US warehouses as well as the fleet and common carrier transportation teams, in addition to building and maintaining relationships with the 3PL partners.

This person will be responsible for laying out a strategy for the distribution and transportation network to support the forecasted growth of the company. Additionally, the individual in this role will develop a vision and execute upon that vision for the distribution and transportation teams that will focus on establishing standardized processes and workflows, optimizing distribution layouts. The role will develop and report out on measurable KPI’s to track progress to this vision.

Establishing effective working relationships with other departments in the company (sales, production, customer service, procurement, IT, etc.) will be critical for the success of this role.

This person will drive a culture of continuous improvement, will be visible, will be creative, will be energetic, will be forward thinking, and will be a hands-on working manager that “roles up the sleeves” each day.

This role requires someone to be able to be in the day-to-day weeds and at the same time think strategically about what the business needs are to not only just survive but also thrive. The ability to effectively analyze and synthesize large amounts of data will be critical for this person to succeed. In dealing with a large team being a good communicator and an inspiring leader to drive change management are necessary skills.

Responsibilities as a Sr. Director of Distribution and Transportation

  • Develop a near and long-term plan for distribution and transportation network capacity that is updated and reported against every 12 months. Partner with other members of the organization to understand where the business is going and what the future needs are.
  • Establish and then execute against a vision for the Internal Fleet
  • Create, establish and report out on quantifiable KPI’s on a weekly basis, to improve the distribution and transportation functions and make informed decisions.
  • Create, establish and report out on monthly distribution and transportation financial budgets.
  • Embrace automation and develop and execute plans around automation opportunities.
  • Constantly evaluate the warehouse layout, workflow and processes to drive a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Develop a team of transportation and distribution leaders through effective management, leadership, training, and coaching.
  • Drive a culture and environment of continuous improvement where change is embraced.
  • Develop and drive an environment where accountability and ownership are embraced.
  • Empower and lead teams to deliver upon the Sugar Foods Mission, Customer is King.
  • Establish yearly goals along with owners and timelines for the distribution and transportation teams that align with the overall objectives of the Company.
  • Deliver superior service and quality to our customers by establishing strategies, processes, structure, standards of excellence and disciplined execution capabilities.
  • Effectively communicate both down and up in the organization progress against key initiatives, KPI performance and financial performance.
  • Collaborate with sales, compliance, and finance to understand the drivers of compliance chargebacks and develop and execute plans to minimize the chargebacks.
  • Keep current on various trends in the distribution and transportation industries and understand how or when these trends can be applied at Sugar Foods.
  • Utilize data to drive decision making.
  • Constantly evaluate and critically think about Sugar Foods distribution and transportation processes to ensure they are best in-class and leading edge.

Job Requisites and Experience

The Background & Qualifications we are looking for:

  • 10+ years of experience in distribution and transportation work
  • Bachelor's or Advanced Degree in Supply Chain Operations, Logistics, or other relevant area
  • A proven track record and demonstrated ability to think strategically then translate strategic vision into tactical action plans that result in delivered business results.
  • Strong analytical abilities
  • Comfortable working in multiple systems and ability to grasp systems quickly.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment; strong time management skills
  • A self-starter and one that has an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Ability to be curious and not accept the status quo.
  • Flexibility for traveling to company locations. (Approx once a month).
