Senior Project EngineerDepartment: OperationsEmployment Type: Full TimeLocation: Portland, ORCompensation: $92,000 - $115,000 / yearDescriptionThe Senior Project Engineer (SPE) is responsible for assisting the project team in successfully managing the construction projects. This position assists in day-to-day management of project operations including client relationships, subcontractor and project team. This role helps ensure the job is completed on time, on budget, and safely, while maintaining strong working relationships with the team, owners, consultants, and subcontractors.Key ResponsibilitiesThe following duties are representative of the job but are not all inclusive and other duties may be assigned as needed.LeadershipAct as a steward of Pence culture – Who We AreUphold and communicate Pence safety standardsProactive, self-starting, self-managingTakes ownership of the projectBehaves in a manner that sets a positive example for others to followMakes day to day decisions that enhance profitability without sacrificing our values or relationshipsGrow and mentor Interns and other Field and Project EngineersResponsible for mitigating and reporting project riskFollow all policies and procedures and ensure others do as wellParticipates in meetings and committeesJob Start UpWork with the project management team to accomplish the following:Nurture positive relationships with owners, architects, etc.Understanding owner contract requirementsPerform a constructability review in partnership with Project SuperintendentBidding project and GMP developmentDeveloping project schedule, identifying key risks within the schedule i.e. long lead procurement itemsVerify permitting, local licenses and approvals to begin jobEnsure all project insurances, including builder’s risk and bonds, are obtained to begin jobActive involvement in pre-construction process relating to estimating, bidding, project logistics and similar responsibilitiesManaging Active JobsAssist the project management team with the following duties: Understand, identify and manage project risk and profitabilityResolve the budget in its entirety into scopes of work and executed contracts while improving the profitability of the projectParticipate in project forecasting development and presentationManage QA/QC process for project in partnership with the field teamManage project documentation processesUnderstand all specifications and drawing requirementsManage submittal processManage RFI process in partnership with the field teamManage procurement process, including buyoutManage change management processSet up and coordinate weekly job meetings and minutesManage project cash flowManage monthly owner billing processReview and approve monthly invoices from subcontractors and suppliersJob ClosingAssist the project management team with the following duties: Manage delivery of closeout documents and owner trainingImplement 1-year warranty and manage activities throughout warranty periodCreate and process final change ordersProduce final cost accounting for job; identify contractual substantial completion requirements and obtain notices for substantial and final completionProtect project lien rightsInitiate post closeout reviewQualificationsThe following qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the job but are not all inclusive.Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Engineering Management or similar degreeIn lieu of degree commensurate experience in Construction field is acceptableMust have at least 2 years of experience as a Project Engineer in the commercial construction industryMinimum of 1 year’s experience with construction software platformsMust be proficient at all Project Engineer responsibilitiesComputer literate with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skillsStrong management and leadership skillsAble to work within tight deadlines and in stressful situationsStrong organization/time management skillsWorking knowledge of critical task schedulingAbility to understand plan specifications, scopes of work, and other necessary construction documents to ensure job is completed as expectedCan work independently and collaboratively in a team environmentMust have, or complete within six months of hire, CPR and first aid certifications and OSHA 10 training.Must be available to work flexible hours. Your work hours will be consistent with a Senior Project Engineer in the construction industry.Work ConditionsWorks occasionally in a typical office environment but primary job station is on job sites where work is done in a job trailer or outside in a construction environment. May be exposed to weather, dirt/dust, loud noise, and may be required to wear personal protective equipment. Is required to lift 25lbs regularly and 50lbs occasionally.
