Position Summary:

The Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for developing, maintaining, and implementing quality assurance programs to ensure compliance with Safe Quality Food (SQF) standards and good manufacturing practices. This role involves tracking product quality, addressing non-conformance issues, and ensuring adherence to food safety regulations and customer audit requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain internal policies and procedures to meet SQF requirements.
  • Track, review, and analyze product quality issues, audit findings, and non-conformance items to improve SQF programs.
  • Provide and oversee training on SQF standards, HACCP, GMP, and food safety topics for staff.
  • Coordinate corrective actions to resolve product quality and food safety issues, ensuring timely and effective solutions.
  • Review and verify quality assurance documentation, modifying forms to improve workflow and document control.
  • Communicate with internal departments to address food safety or quality record-keeping concerns.
  • Stay current on food safety regulations, public health guidelines, and industry best practices to maintain compliance.
  • Assist with internal audits, customer audits, and the preparation of required documentation for various certifications.
  • Support the pest control program and ensure SQF recognition compliance.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance Director on special projects and high-priority tasks.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, or a related field.
  • Experience working in food manufacturing and quality assurance programs.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety, food microbiology, food processing, sanitation, GMP, and HACCP principles.
  • Ability to maintain and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other procedural documents.
  • Strong problem-solving and time management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to train and present information effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in regulatory compliance and quality assurance within food manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with audit processes for certifications such as SQF, Organic, RSPO, and FDA.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective training programs related to food safety and quality assurance.
  • Experience in document control and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with strict deadlines while ensuring adherence to industry regulations and standards.
