SummaryDirector Claims – Ryder System, Inc.Lead and direct General and Auto Liability Claims, Physical Damage Repairs, and Property and Cargo Claims, managing loss control activities and third‑party provider relationships.Job DescriptionThe Director Claims reports to the Senior Director of Claims, oversees an internal staff of approximately 40 (Claims Managers, Supervisors, Office Manager, Analysts, clerical support), and manages claims in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico.Essential FunctionsProvide strategic direction to the claims team.Ensure consistent identification of exposures, promote loss prevention and manage safety/risk programs.Develop and implement processes for timely physical damage repairs.Partner with Operations, Sales, Central Support, Safety, and others on liability, property, cargo, and physical damage matters.Ensure correct coverage to avoid major exposure.Manage invoicing support and reduce credits to improve customer satisfaction.Lead continuous improvement and implement new processes for better financial results.Interact with field and senior management, internal legal counsel, safety directors, Sales, Ryder Security, and corporate risk management.Act as primary backup for the Senior Director.Lead and develop a team of 40+ claims analysts and administrative staff.Additional ResponsibilitiesPerform other duties as assigned.Provide direction on high exposure claims and business processes.Update senior management on trends, compliance issues, and root causes of claim frequency and severity.Establish relationships with operations, sales, central support, leadership, and customers; ensure superior customer service.Lead special projects.Skills And AbilitiesAbility to manage and develop a sizable staff.Foster collaborative relationships and increase customer satisfaction.Drive favorable outcomes through strategic negotiations.Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.Effectively influence Executive, Field management and other business units.Create a collaborative environment that drives engagement and results.QualificationsBachelor's degree in business, economics, finance, or related field (or equivalent claims work experience).10+ years in the Casualty Claims field.5+ years in Vehicle Rental/Leasing Business or Commercial Trucking Insurance (preferred).5+ years of management or administrative experience.Working knowledge of state laws regarding ownership, joint and several liabilities.Strong understanding of insurance law, policy languages, and contract interpretation.Thorough knowledge of Total Quality Management principles.Adjuster Insurance Licenses or related courses (e.g., I.I.A. or C.P.C.U.) (preferred).Job CategoryRisk ManagementCompensation InformationSalary: $150,000 – $200,000 (annually).
