OverviewBarnard seeks to hire two tenure-track assistant professors in Computer Science for the academic year beginning July 1, 2026. Barnard is a premier liberal arts undergraduate college for women in New York City affiliated with Columbia University. Barnard’s CS Department works closely with the Vagelos Computational Science Center, with the Columbia CS Department, and with other Barnard faculty. The department aims to enhance the experience of Barnard CS majors, serve all Barnard students by expanding computation and data analysis across disciplines, and advance CS through research, curriculum, pedagogical development, and outreach to diversify computing. Faculty are expected to teach, engage in research, contribute to curriculum and program development, advise undergraduates, and mentor undergraduate researchers. There are opportunities to collaborate with faculty and students across Barnard and Columbia. We encourage candidates who work in Artificial Intelligence (including Machine Learning, Responsible AI, Computer Vision), Theoretical Computer Science (Algorithms, Algorithmic Fairness, Game Theory, Learning Theory), Systems and Networking (Databases, Mobile Applications), and Data Science, with a broad approach to computing and connections to other disciplines. ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities include teaching, research, curriculum and program development, undergraduate advising, and mentoring undergraduate research. There are opportunities to collaborate with Barnard College and Columbia colleagues and students. Candidates are encouraged to pursue a broad computing approach and research connections to other disciplines. QualificationsCandidates must have a PhD in Computer Science or a related discipline, along with a promising research agenda and a record of scholarship, and a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching, mentoring, and increasing participation in computer science.
