Assistant Probation Division Chief – Sacramento County Salary: $97,300.00–$125,544.00 with a 3.35% Management Differential. Assist in planning, organizing and directing the staff and program of the Probation Department, and manage the division office. Perform office management functions. Responsibilities Supervise, plan and direct the work of others; effectively relate to others; train and develop staff; exercise sound judgement in emergency situations; carry out a program in the care, control, and well‑being of delinquent youth. Knowledge and abilities Policies and procedures of Probation Department. Modern methods and techniques used in dealing with adult and juvenile probationers and related court procedures. Laws relating to juvenile and adult probation and criminal justice. Principles and techniques of personnel management and supervision. Principles and techniques of social and correctional case and group work. Community services; growth development and needs of children. Operation and maintenance of an institutional facility. Budgeting procedures. Minimum Qualifications One year full‑time experience in the supervising Probation Officer class in Sacramento County Probation Department. OR: Graduation from an accredited college and five years experience in probation, parole, correction, social case work, or related field, plus one year at a level equivalent to supervising Probation Officer; graduate study in behavioral science may be substituted for some supervisory experience. Full‑time paid experience unless stated otherwise. General Qualifications Criminal history and background check; cannot be convicted of a felony or misdemeanor that impairs job performance. Compliance with California Government Code; must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident eligible for citizenship. Must pass P.O.S.T. for Probation Officers within one year after appointment.
