Orthopedic Tech- Mentor

- Displays commitment to UH Essential Behaviors, the UH mission, employee engagement and other system-wide service excellence initiatives
- Assist Orthopaedic Surgeons in setting specialized traction apparatuses and applying/removal of patient casts and splints
- Responsible for performing duties as first assistant to the orthopedic surgeons in the operating room
- Assists surgeons when necessary in surgery, Emergency Department, Patient care floors, and on-call on weekends
- Provides clinical support to physicians in outpatient clinics
- Educates patients and families on usage, precautions, and donning and doffing of orthopedic devices, casting, traction
- Provides age specific care to patients from neonates through elderly
- Performs non-patient care duties and cross coverage of other positions within the practice as assigned
- Takes responsibility for self-development and supports a learning environment
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
- For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
- Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
- High School Equivalent / GED (Required)
- Experience in cast application and splinting (Preferred) and
- 1+ years experience in a medical setting. (Required)
- Working knowledge of Medical Terminology, anatomy and physiology. (Required proficiency)
- Understanding of purpose and goals of orthopaedic treatments and devices. (Preferred proficiency)
- Ability to relate well to other people and be considerate of their conditions. (Required proficiency)
- Displays the ability to work in a team environment. (Required proficiency)
- Able to multi-task and work independently (Required proficiency)
- Proficient PC skills, including MS Office products. (Required proficiency)
- Familiar with operation of standard office equipment. Ability to apply casts, braces, splints, and traction. (Required proficiency)
