1 week ago Be among the first 25 applicantsOperations Director - West Location: Colorado, Utah, Idaho, or MontanaThe Operations Director – West partners with the COO to lead and strengthen AE2S’s operational performance. This position plays a critical role in aligning day-to-day operations with the Company’s strategic objectives and long-term vision. This position is responsible for driving initiatives that enhance efficiency, resource management, and financial performance. This includes developing and implementing tools for staffing and workload coordination, ensuring profitability targets are met, and supporting business development and client relationships strategies. Working closely with Project Quality Director, the Operations Director promotes consistent project quality standards and supports company-wide risk management initiatives.The Operations Director – West will have primary responsibilities outlined below for AE2S Operations in the Western United States including offices in Colorado, Idaho, Montana and Utah.Strategic LeadershipParticipate in strategic planning and ensure operational activities align with the strategic planAdvise the COO on the consolidated strategic plan, providing insights on goals, objectives, and activitiesAnalyze business decisions for alignment to the strategic planContribute to the development of business plans that support AE2S’s overall strategyCoordinate with Chief Development Officer and Client Development Director to evaluate business plans for geographic and market growth opportunitiesPromote and protect AE2S’s brand and reputation for excellenceFinancial ManagementEvaluate the financial performance of operations to ensure achievement of established goalsManage profitability and growth to established goals in partnership with other Operations Directors and COOReview financial metrics and ensure appropriate actions are taken to support financial successMonitor key financial controls (billings, write-offs, accounts receivable, project profits, project variance, etc.) and assist the Operations Managers in developing solutions to issuesParticipate in the annual budgeting process, including office-level reviews and support for Operations Managers in preparing budgetsStaffing and LeadershipEnsure appropriate staffing levels to meet client, project, and internal needsAnalyze workload metrics to maintain appropriate staffing-to-workload ratios exist across the companyMonitor utilization and ensure direct labor ratios align with business goals; provide guidance to Operations Managers as neededManage assigned direct reports including performance evaluations, compensation reviews, performance management, and employment decisionsRecommend employment actions (hiring, termination, promotion, bonuses, etc.) for direct reports and others within span of controlParticipate in recruitment and hiring, including interviewing and selection of Operations Managers and other key rolesFoster a culture of professional development across AE2S providing training, mentoring, and coaching to direct reports and other strategic assignmentsOperations and Workload ManagementPromote cooperation and information flow amongst offices, regions, and practices to achieve overall financial goalsOversee coordination of workload ensuring balanced and efficient resource allocationContribute to advanced technical concepts in proposal development, preliminary design phases, and client presentations as neededClient Management and Business DevelopmentDevelop and strengthen strategic positioning and relationships with potential and existing clientsParticipate in business development activities including identifying, evaluating, pursuing, and managing project opportunitiesPartner with Practice Leaders, Client Program Leaders, and the Client Development Director to develop business development plans and achieve near-term sales goalsMonitor and manage backlog to support growth and profitability strategiesRisk ManagementSupport the Project Quality Director in evaluating contracts/agreements to mitigate risk and liabilityParticipate in the claim management process, assisting the Chief Legal Officer and the COO with resolution as appropriateOtherCollaborate with the Project Quality Director to develop and implement project management training focused on efficient and profitable project deliverySupport Company-wide safety program and compliance initiativesContribute to office space and fleet planning incorporating staffing projections and operational needsBasic QualificationsBachelor’s degree in engineering or related field10+years of experience in civil or environmental engineeringProven success in leadership and management rolesAbility to travel regularly between office locations (estimated 20% of time) for operational priorities, team alignment, business development, project/client responsibilities, and strategic initiativesPreferred QualificationsMaster’s degree in engineering or related fieldRegistration as a Professional Engineer or the ability to obtain within 6 monthsProgressive management and supervisory experiencePrimary residence in the Western Geographic Region (Colorado, Utah, Montana, or Idaho)Physical QualificationsAbility to walk up to 3-miles on uneven terrainAbility to stand or sit for prolonged periods of timeOccasionally climb, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twistOccasionally lift, carry, push, and pull light to moderate amounts of weightMay require lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds, with rare lifting of up to 50 poundsAbility to inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.May be required to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to, flame resistant clothing, hard hat, and protective footwearMay require occasional evenings and weekends with overtime expectations varying with workloadMay be required to travel to off-site locations including occasional overnight stays out of townElevate Your Career with AE2S – Award-Winning Culture and Unmatched BenefitsAdvanced Engineering and Environmental Services (AE2S) is an award-winning, specialized civil/environmental consulting engineering firm that provides professional services and a unique brand of extreme client service.
