Position Overview The AVP, Financial Reporting Actuary Manager will be a key member of the Fortitude Life and Annuity Valuation team, supporting valuation and financial reporting for US GAAP and Statutory accounting for reinsurance and acquired businesses. This role reports to the VP, Valuation Actuary and is responsible for consolidating and reporting on the Life and Annuity business, including actuarial account reconciliations. The position is based in the Nashville, TN office on a hybrid basis (lean‑in 2–3 days per week). What You Will Do Consolidate valuation results for financial reporting across all lines of business, including Traditional Life, Universal Life, Variable UL, Payout Annuity, Fixed and Indexed Deferred Annuity, and Accident & Health/LTC. Serve as the technical expert and supervise all technical aspects of the valuation actuarial team to update, run, and report on all US GAAP and Statutory liabilities for Life and Annuity contracts. Establish and conduct periodic unlocking of Deferred Gain, Cost of Reinsurance Asset, and VoBA Liability schedules. Develop and maintain the robust control infrastructure that supports valuation, reporting, and internal audit processes. Lead and support US statutory annual statement and Bermuda annual Statutory Financial Statement reporting. Maintain a production valuation data and calculation environment for multiple valuation models, primarily AXIS, ensuring data centricity and minimal spreadsheet use. Automate the reporting infrastructure, building repeatable processes with built‑in review capability. Collaborate with internal and external auditors during periodic reviews. Review, interpret, and explain results, particularly variations in earnings vs. best‑estimate expectation and prior periods. Communicate consolidated results to senior management through memos, PowerPoint presentations, and by providing insights and answers to questions. Perform technical actuarial work to fill gaps on the valuation team, collaborating in a team environment. Mentor and guide junior team members, fostering continuous learning and development. Contribute to team capability building through best‑practice sharing, peer review, and development of standard tools and templates. What You Will Have Associateship of the Society of Actuaries (ASA), Fellowship of Society of Actuaries (FSA) or an equivalent designation. 7+ years of experience, ideally involving valuation, financial reporting, and actuarial accounting. Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, actuarial sciences, insurance accounting, or other quantitative fields. Project management experience with strong organizational and detail‑oriented skills. Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities with attention to detail. In-depth knowledge of actuarial, accounting, and finance principles, and advanced computer software skills. Basic business sense of financial, accounting, and economic aspects of the business. Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and strong data‑analysis capabilities. Technical knowledge of US Statutory and US GAAP valuation. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Highly motivated, results‑oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects. Compensation and Benefits Base Salary Range: $155,000 USD – $205,000 USD. The role also includes an annual bonus based on company and individual performance and a comprehensive benefits package.
