Clinical Support Associate

Job Summary
The Nursing Assistant II position at South Shore Health plays a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care. This role assists in providing direct patient care throughout nursing areas, ensuring the safe transport of patients via wheelchair or stretcher, and other devices. The NA II performs basic care tasks as delegated by the RN, and is responsible for accurate documentation of services. Additionally, the NA II provides the services of a Patient Observer (Sitter) for patients requiring constant observation to maximize their safety.
Key Responsibilities
1. Patient Care - Demonstrate the necessary skills and judgment to provide direct/non-direct care to patients under the direct supervision of licensed personnel.
a. Observe, obtain, and report patient data/status to assigned RN.
b. Respond to changes in patient acuity and emergent situations as directed by nursing staff.
2. Professional Development - Maintain current knowledge and certification.
a. Maintain BLS certification.
b. Function as a preceptor to new employees.
c. Display the ability to accept and respond appropriately to feedback and recommendations for change.
d. Demonstrate professional working relationships with colleagues from all disciplines to promote a positive and encouraging workplace.
e. Be accountable for staying informed about changes in hospital policy and procedure.
3. Safety and Quality - Foster a Culture of Safety through personal ownership and commitment to a safe environment.
a. Verify patient identification with 2 identifiers prior to the start of any procedure.
b. Understand individual role/responsibilities in the event of hospital codes and emergency preparedness.
c. Comply with current CDC hand hygiene guidelines through proper handwashing and adhere to universal precautions.
d. Demonstrate awareness of each patient's fall risk and the appropriate use of safety devices and identified safety interventions.
e. Conduct patient safety rounds utilizing principles of SBAR and follow the chain of command to communicate any identified patient or staff safety risks.
4. Technology and Learning - Participate in continued learning and possess a willingness and ability to learn and utilize new technology and procedures.
a. Utilize software applications required by department and unit standards.
b. Be accountable to understand how to operate in downtime.
5. Compliance - Work within legal, regulatory, and ethical practice standards relevant to the position.
a. Comply with applicable policies and procedures.
b. Safeguard the privacy and security of patient information.
c. Bring potential compliance issues to a manager, supervisor, director, or VP.
6. Patient and Family Centered Care - Convey respect for values, preferences, and expressed needs of the patient and family.
a. Recognize the patient and family according to patient preferences as important members of the healthcare team.
b. Collaborate with the patient and family according to patient preferences in planning, implementing, and evaluating care.
7. Age and Culture - Consider the individual needs of each person with whom they interact.
a. Possess age and cultural knowledge and awareness.
b. Interact with sensitivity in the delivery of care/services to diverse populations.
c. Effectively utilize resources to provide care/services such as interpreter services and on-line sources.
Requirements
High School Diploma/GED preferred.
Previous Nursing Assistant or equivalent experience preferred.
BLS - Basic Life Support certification required.
Knowledge of basic medical terminology, basic computer knowledge, and ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately required.
