Principal Systems Engineer – Missile Defense Sensors (MDS) Location: 8650 Balboa Avenue, San Diego, CA 92123, USA. This on‑site role is based in San Diego, California. Position Type: Full‑Time, Onsite. Security Clearance Required: DoD Secret. Eligibility: U.S. citizen. Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government‑issued security clearance is required. About the Team The RMD team is looking for a Principal Systems Engineer to support the Missile Defense Sensors (MDS) department. The MDS department provides subject‑matter expertise for concept development, architectural design, requirements generation, flow‑down modeling, simulation systems analysis, integration, test and evaluation of world‑class Missile Defense & Sensor Systems. What You Will Do Analyze radar system performance data with respect to requirements. Identify performance deficiencies and propose solutions. Define and prototype new algorithms to enhance system performance. Present plans, designs and system performance to peers, internal leadership and external customers. Provide subject‑matter expertise to agile software development teams to ensure proper implementation of requirements. These responsibilities may involve one or more capability areas: Electronic Protection, signal processing, applied mathematics Hypersonic threat defense Tracking, discrimination, search and battle manager interfaces Radar calibration, diagnostics, deployed site support Modeling and simulation of tactical software Qualifications You Must Have Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM preferred) and a minimum of 8 years of prior engineering experience or equivalent experience. Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government‑issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for the required security clearance. Qualifications We Prefer Experience with Battle Management Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (BMC4I) systems, radar systems or signal processing techniques. Experience with developing, documenting and maintaining processes, methods and tools. Ability to develop technical solutions to complex issues. Experience working with MATLAB, C/C++, Java or DOORS. Analytic technical and problem‑solving skills. Experience with system‑level requirements development, documentation and maintenance and/or requirements development and design of system‑level software architecture. Experience with radar system concepts; detection, discrimination, track and signal‑processing algorithms and their behaviors and performance. Experience with the development and coding of system models, algorithms, test vectors and analysis tools in support of analyzing radar requirements and performance. Experience and interest in Information Assurance / Cyber Engineering requirements determination, development and implementation. Experience in using AI/ML and signal processing in database and algorithm design and enhancement. Previous military service and the ability to interface with customers and lead technical solutions to complex user needs are preferred. Active DoD Secret Clearance or greater. Specific benefits depend on the business unit and collective‑bargaining agreement.
