Title: Principal Systems Engineer, Principal Member of Technical Staff (PMTS)Join us on our mission as we transform energy storage to enable a more sustainable future. We are looking to add a Principal Systems Engineer to our Cell Manufacturing Engineering team. This individual will be responsible for conceptualizing, developing, and validating manufacturing equipment and process technology to enable scale manufacturing of our solid-state lithium-metal batteries. Experience working with electrochemical energy storage devices such as lithium-based batteries, fuel cells, or similar technologies is highly desired.ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIESLead pilot-scale and auto-scale cell assembly automation programsServe as subject matter expert in equipment design and development of high-speed manufacturing systemsDevelop a strong partnership with product design & R&D teams to drive DFM/DFA, process control & simplicity considerations to enable high volume & costDrive PFMEA and OEE considerations as far upstream in product development as possibleResponsible for managing external machine integrators from RFP, RFQ through FAT/SAT and subsequent handoff to manufacturing teamsGenerate machine system specifications, interfaces, and concept designsManage technical risks and drive design validation throughout the project lifecycle.SUCCESS FACTORSEmbrace new challenges, learn new techniques, and surpass internal goalsCurious, hands-on approach to problem-solvingShares a real passion for our mission and vision of a carbonless futureDemonstrate flexibility and resourcefulness allowing smooth adaptation to a constantly evolving environment and work prioritiesPossesses a can-do spirit and is a collaborative leader and teammateOrganized, meticulous, and has clear written and verbal communication skillsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSBS or higher degree in mechanical, controls, or electrical engineeringMinimum 10 years of experience working in manufacturing engineeringProven experience in manufacturing scale-up and ability to transfer complex technologies from research to commercializationExposure to a wide variety of automation systems, high speed manufacturing machinery, industrial sensors, vision and metrology systemsProven track record of successfully managing projects to meet deadlines amidst changing requirements and prioritiesKnowledge or experience of lithium-ion, solid-state battery, or fuel cell manufacturing is highly desiredStrong written, verbal, and organizational skillsPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSWork is performed in a dry room, fume hood, lab area, or glovebox requiring the use of fine motor skillsSitting or standing for extended periods of timeReaching and twisting motions with handsLifting up to 25 lbs.Compensation & Benefits: Salary range for this role has a range of $194,200 to $310,800, and a final salary will be determined by the candidate's experience and educational background. QuantumScape also offers an annual bonus and a generous RSU/Equity package as part of its compensation plan.
