Job Description

Savannah River National Laboratory is seeking a Classification Analyst responsible for providing programmatic and technical expertise to the SRNL Classification Program. In this position you will assist the Classification Officer (CO) in supporting the management and oversight of the SRNL Classification Programs.

The Classification Analyst will be responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of the Operation Security (OPSEC) and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) Program, to include strategic planning, risk management and oversight of program implementation. Working collaboratively and collegially with peers in the SRNL Classification Office to support the Laboratories CO in successfully implementing the Laboratory's Information Security Programs in accordance with internal requirements, DOE requirements, and other federal laws and regulations. Read and comprehend the classification guides issued to the Laboratory by the US Government sponsors and analyze their applicability to the diverse and complex national security problems being address in the Laboratory. Assist and participate in training new Derivative Classifiers (DSs) supporting a broad range of technical programs and briefing all Lab employees on classification matters. As needed, collaboratively develop interpretive classification to assist the Laboratory's DCs by summarizing classification guidance from diverse sources in the context of specific, complex, and interdisciplinary problem/project/program.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of the OPSEC and CUI Programs, to include strategic planning, risk management and oversight of program implementation.
  • Work with multiple organizations for collaborations and implementation of the Information Security programs to align with mission and organizational strategic business plans.
  • Reviewing scientific papers and reports to identify scientific and technical information that requires protection or control.
  • Maintaining a thorough knowledge and understanding of the ever-changing Federal OPSEC, CUI, and Classification policies, laws, and statutes.
  • Responsible for assisting the Classification Officer in maintaining and administering the Classification Program, to include coordinating with all levels of staff and management.
  • Establishes and maintains liaison relationships by networking with SRNL management, staff, and Field Intelligence Element (FIE) to foster integration, best practices and meet organizational goals.
  • Providing recommendations to resolve OPSEC, CUI, and Classification/UCNI issues affecting SRNL mission objectives.
  • Analyzing complex information and provided interpretations to identify OPSEC, CUI, and Classification controls that will be required on programmatic work products or process to adhere to current DOE and other federal agencies.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in science and/or technical field a minimum of +7-9 years of relevant experience in classification or reviewing research and development documents.
  • For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and interpretation abilities.
  • Motivated self- starter with the ability to work independently and participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory and DOE complex.
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple takes with deadlines and adapt to ever changing needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • With SRNL's growing national security missions, technical experience, and expertise in executing relevant programs across NNSA's Defense Programs and/or Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation.
  • Experience in applying current DOE classification guides in such areas as nuclear weapons design and test, military applications, arms control, nuclear nonproliferation, nuclear materials production, intelligence/counterintelligences, to SRNL National Security Programs.
  • Experience in development, implementation, and oversight of the OPSEC and CUI Programs at SRS
