Associate Vice President & University Controller, Financial Operations Boston, MA, United States Full‑Time / Regular Position Summary Associate Vice President & University Controller (Controller) reports to the Vice President, Financial Operations and is responsible for maintaining accounting records, providing timely financial reporting, establishing internal controls, and spearheading technology initiatives. Major Duties Staff development: assist managers in formulating development plans; supervise teams including Associate Controller, Payroll Services; Assistant VP of Student Financial Services; Assistant VP of Financial Accounting & Reporting and Tax Services; Associate Controller of Research Financial Operations; and Property Management. Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure and staffing to accomplish goals; recruit, employ, train, supervise, evaluate personnel. Review month‑end close reporting; prepare monthly board committee presentations and ad‑hoc financial analysis for senior leadership. Oversee preparation of consolidated financial statements, footnotes, MD&A under GAAP; liaise with external auditors; lead external audits; serve Board of Trustees’ Audit Committee. Establish an internal control environment for financial information and accounting of university assets. Act as committee member for subsidiaries, related parties, task forces, and working groups with internal and external partners. Required Skills CPA qualified and master’s degree (MBA, MSA, or equivalent). 12+ years financial accounting management experience, preferably in higher‑education public accounting; last 5 years supervisory/managerial; alternatively 7 years audit experience in higher education with managerial responsibilities. Expertise in internal controls, compliance, GAAP. Strong communication, negotiation, influencing, critical thinking, collaboration, problem‑solving, empathy. Excellent analytical skills; experience with complex processes, systems, report writing applications. Proven staff & office operations management; leadership and team‑building. Strong time‑management, planning, ability to prioritize multiple projects and adapt to fast‑paced changes. Self‑motivated, proactive, intellectually curious. Preferred Skills Extensive experience with SAP, other reporting tools, enterprise‑wide accounting software (Oracle, PeopleSoft, Banner, ERP), Campus Solutions, Microsoft Office Suite.
