**POSITION PURPOSE**

The cook position exists, as a part of the Dining Services team, to ensure the delivery of a quality dining experience for the residents Golden West by preparing meals. The cook is responsible for the production and service of all menu items following established production standards and techniques.

**REQUIREMENTS**

- Must have a positive attitude and take direction well.

- Must be able to work independently

- Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions in English

- Must be able to lift 50-60 lbs., push/pull up to 100 lbs.

- Must be able to stand and walk for at least 60 minutes at a time.

- Must be able to bend, twist, turn, kneel, reach up and out with arms, as needed to complete principal accountabilities.

- Must have hand, wrist and arm strength and dexterity needed to complete principal accountabilities, including but not limited to reaching up and out, wrist turning, and grasping with hands/fingers.

**PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES**

* Work as a productive member of the Dining Services team, maintaining a positive, courteous, helpful and professional attitude towards all individuals encountered while representing Golden West. This includes, but is not limited, to residents, family members, guests, staff members and vendors.

* Maintain an acceptable attendance record. Record all hours worked using the time clock and take breaks as per Dining Services and Golden West policies and procedures.

* Be in uniform and prepared to begin work by the scheduled start time of each shift.

* Regularly attend all staff and department meetings and trainings.

* Be familiar with and follow all Golden West personnel and safety policies.

* Know and use proper food handling techniques at all times.

* Work as a team with all scheduled staff to complete the following tasks necessary to provide a quality dining experience for the residents, following department procedures and scheduled times:

+ Meal and catering preparation according to menus and established schedules

+ Maintain appropriate documentation of food and equipment temperatures throughout the cooking process

+ Monitor and replenish as needed, the supply of menu and other food items to ensure adequate supplies to meet customer orders.

+ Preparation of trays, grab and go items, retail items and box meals

+ Stock work and other assigned areas including bread and soda coolers

+ Set up steam tables, grill area/ specialty cooking areas for service.

+ Clean and sanitize food preparation areas, equipment and storage areas in compliance with master cleaning schedule.

+ Assist in cooking and plating for special functions and/or events.

+ Assist other staff, as needed.

* All other duties as assigned by supervisor.
