The University of Iowa Center for Advancement (UICA) seeks an assistant vice president of development to provide leadership and oversight for University of Iowa Health Care central clinical departments, plus strategic oversight of the UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital, Corporate and Community Development, and Health Care Philanthropy teams. This position works closely with the CEO of the clinical enterprise, and other key faculty and staff to develop strategic annual and multi-year fundraising plans. In cooperation with the supervisor, the vice president of health sciences development, this position plans and implements strategies for increasing major gift development activity for the assigned areas. **This position is eligible for hybrid work (telecommuting) which includes working on-site at our office in Iowa City at least 3 days per week.** **Required: Please submit cover letter with application.** Organizational Leadership: Provides fundraising leadership for UI Health Care clinical departments and strategic oversight of UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital, Corporate Community Development and Health Care Philanthropy teams. Maintains relationships and ongoing contact with the CEO of the clinical enterprise, UI Health Care and other UIHC leaders and administrators to ensure their full confidence and trust in our advancement approach Works with Data Analytics to develop strategies that strengthen the team’s fundraising capacity Maintains awareness and understanding through continuing education and interaction with colleagues at other institutions of trends, developments, and new fundraising techniques, especially as related to medicine fundraising Strives to maintain a collaborative and cohesive development team that works synergistically with teams across the organization Serves as a member of the Health Sciences Leadership Team and participates in decision-making related to the strategic direction of the team Donor Engagement: Manages a portfolio of active principal and major gift prospects, skillfully moving those prospects through the steps of an established process of donor engagement Meets expectations for solicitations, gifts closed, and average gift size (goals established annually with the supervisor in alignment with organization-wide metrics) Interfaces with other senior and constituent fundraisers, as appropriate, to develop broad and/or meaningful strategies for assigned principal and major gift prospects Models the role of a trusted philanthropic advisor and identifies meaningful donor-centered ways for prospects to achieve their desired impact while meeting funding needs Clearly articulates the vision and priorities of the unit in a compelling and broadly understandable way Prepares partners/leaders as necessary for donor meetings and guides their critical role in the giving conversation and donor process Develops, implements, and participates in stewardship activities for donors as relevant (e.g., acknowledgement letters, publicity events) Conducts all activities, particularly those involving patient data, according to established laws, policies, procedures, and standards and with the full support of UICA, UI, and UI Health Care as relevant Program Leadership Plans and oversees the overall operational, reporting, budgetary, and financial responsibilities of assigned unit Develops and maintains work systems, procedures, and productivity standards that advance the mission and goals of the team and enable optimum performance of the people and other resources within it Allocates resources to effectively accomplish the work of the assigned unit Monitors, evaluates, and aims to improve effectiveness of unit operations Makes business decisions that are consistent with UICA mission/vision and our organizational culture and values People Leadership Manages all aspects of the employee lifecycle from recruitment and onboarding through separation Empowers employees to take responsibility for their jobs and prioritizes trust and transparent communication as the basis for a productive relationship Supports employees in developing meaningful goals aligned with those of the unit and UICA and in achieving/surpassing those goals Inspires performance through clear expectations and ongoing feedback Supports employees struggling to meet expectations for productivity, quality, and goal attainment Identifies and anticipates competency gaps within individuals and the UICA unit as a whole Motivates, develops, coaches, and rewards employees for growth in competencies over time, leading to new opportunities for subject matter expertise or leadership Partners with Talent Management to achieve optimum results for employees, self, unit, and UICA Creates a work environment that is consistent with UICA mission/vision and that emphasizes our organizational culture and values **This position is eligible for hybrid work (telecommuting) which includes working on-site at our office in Iowa City at least 3 days per week.** **Required: Please submit cover letter with application.** Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree + 10 years of relevant development/fundraising experience (including management) required.
