POSITION SUMMARY:

The Technician Electrical III is responsible for maintaining and repairing electrical equipment, assisting in new electrical construction projects, and performing shop work. This role requires the ability to work independently and to direct others in completing electrical work, modifications, and the construction of electrical facilities owned by Winter Park Resort. The Technician Electrical III must be familiar with and comply with state, national, and Winter Park electrical codes, and must hold proper licensing. The technician will adhere to all Winter Park policies and procedures, applicable laws (federal, state, and local), health and sanitation codes, and safety protocols.

WAGE:

The base hourly range below represents the low and high end of Winter Park Resort's hourly pay for this position. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of Winter Park Resort's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include many region-specific benefits.

Hourly pay range: $29.11 - $41.92

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Wear appropriate safety equipment and adhere to established safety policies and procedures for the Plant Department, Winter Park Resort, and state and national electrical safety standards.
  • Work with heavy-duty power equipment and hand tools to install, repair, and maintain electrical facilities and associated equipment at Winter Park Resort.
  • Ensure public and employee safety.
  • Promote and exhibit good safety practices, report, and correct unsafe conditions.
  • Wear appropriate safety equipment to promote personal safety.
  • Attend periodic safety meetings to increase safety awareness.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all electrical systems, including but not limited to:
    • Panels
    • Main distribution centers
    • Electric heat systems
    • Lighting systems
    • Cafeteria equipment
  • Design, layout, rough-in, and trim out electrical portions of remodels and new construction projects (not contracted), including but not limited to:
  • Permits
  • Inspections
  • Material procurement
  • Scheduling with other subcontractors and departments at WPR
  • Keep abreast of current electrical practices and codes.
  • Perform construction work as needed to upgrade, replace, or repair existing facilities.
  • Perform work on facilities, including inspections, preventive maintenance schedules (PMS), construction, and repair of electrical components per state electrical codes and Winter Park Resort standards.
  • Perform construction work, such as digging holes, pouring concrete, laying cable, connecting wires and cables to terminals, and attaching or detaching various kinds of hardware to wires, cables, buildings, towers, or poles.
  • Respond to UNCC email requests for WPR jurisdiction electrical locates.
  • Conduct inspections per governmental and insurance requirements, manufacturer's recommendations, and Winter Park electrical procedures.
  • Advise the Electrical Manager or the Plant Manager of changing conditions or occurrences that may adversely affect electrical standards, employees, or guests.
  • Inspect the work of Electrical Technicians I/II as required.
  • Assist and direct Electrical Technicians I/II as necessary and keep the Electrical Manager apprised of their performance.
  • Work with electric voltage up to and including medium voltage.
  • Perform maintenance work such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, and concrete work as specified by Winter Park and as job knowledge and skill permits.
  • Assist various unit supervisors, Electrical Technicians, or the Electrical Manager with inspections per the requirements of Winter Park and all other electrical codes (weekly, monthly, semi-annually, and annually).
  • Advise the Electrical Manager or Electrical Technicians of changing conditions or occurrences that may adversely affect the safety of electric equipment or our guests.
  • Perform work in the shop as needed or requested.


Other Duties
  • Assist the Electrical Manager in setting up record-keeping systems and safety procedures.
  • Repair and maintain electrically over-the-snow vehicles, trucks, snowblowers, compressors, etc., as needed.
  • Help Electrical Technicians troubleshoot lifts if needed.
  • Perform periodic maintenance on electrical equipment as specified by manufacturers (weekly, monthly, semi-annually, and annually).
  • Advise the Electrical Manager on items that may affect budget preparations and/or scheduling of summer maintenance, construction, or PMS programs.
  • Advise the Base Operations Director/Managers on items that may affect budget preparations and/or scheduling of summer maintenance, construction, or PMS programs when needed.
  • In emergencies, fill in for other jobs as required, following the job description for the position being filled.
  • Continuously stay updated with changing trends, new techniques, and developments in the industry through training, aiming to improve skills and Plant Department standards.
  • Maintain a friendly, congenial, and helpful attitude while effectively serving guests and other employees.
  • Take pride in area cleanliness by picking up trash around facilities and reporting unsightly conditions.
  • Report any unsafe conditions regarding equipment and the area to the Electrical Manager.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor.
  • Be available for on-call and emergency responses.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
  • Education - High School diploma or GED -- General Education Development (high school equivalency) - required
  • Two to four (2-4) years of electrical schooling or equivalent of four (4) years in the field - required


Experience:
  • Current Colorado State Electrical Board Journeyman Electrical license (or reciprocal from another state)- required
  • At least three (3) years of experience in electrical related field - required
  • At least one (1) season of experience working in Base Operations at Winter Park Resort - desired
  • Experience with electrical troubleshooting, blueprint reading, and high voltage - desired


Qualifications and Skills:
  • Must be at least 22 years of age
  • Must have completed one full year of employment with Winter Park as an Electrical Technician II
  • Must be in good physical condition to work outside in extreme weather conditions and be able to lift heavy components and equipment (50 to 75 pounds) for sustained periods of time
  • Must be able to perceive differences in wire colors
  • Must be able to work at heights
  • May be assigned to work or attend schools or conventions out of town for varying lengths of time
  • May be required to workday, night hours, evening hours (and overtime), emergency call-outs, weekends, and holidays (as required)
  • Hours to be worked will be determined by job requirements, training, and experience of employee
  • Must have minimum of Journeyman licensing under Colorado State Electrical Board
  • Knowledge of ski lift and related electric motors, buildings, and controls
  • Experience with over-the-snow vehicles and varying sizes of trucks.
  • Ability to operate snow-blowers, hand tools, power tools, spray painters, precision instruments, and electrical instruments
  • Knowledge of high voltage and related equipment, including: transformers, switchgear, disconnects, generators, etc.
