We eliminate traditional PBM conflicts of interest and power specialty drug management with modern software, data pipelines, and analytics. We are building a cloud-native platform that integrates payers, providers, pharmacies, and patients around the specialty drug journey—securely, compliantly, and at scale. Role Summary We are seeking a Director, Software Engineering with deep full-stack and data-centric experience to lead the engineering teams building our core platforms and applications. This role owns: Architecture and delivery of our SaaS platform and line-of-business applications Design and operation of data pipelines, integrations, and analytics foundations You’ll lead multiple squads (backend, frontend, data/ETL), work closely with Product, Data, and Infrastructure/Cloud, and be a key partner to the CTO in shaping our technical roadmap. This is a hands‑on leadership role: you won’t be coding full time, but you should be comfortable reviewing designs, diving into pull requests, and making real architectural decisions. What You’ll Own & Do Technology Strategy & Leadership Partner with the CTO to define and execute the engineering roadmap for our specialty drug platform and supporting applications. Lead, grow, and mentor a team of ~8–15 engineers across backend, frontend, and data engineering. Establish engineering standards for architecture, code quality, testing, security, and documentation. Use metrics (e.g., DORA/lead time, reliability, defect trends) to drive continuous improvement and predictability. Platform & Application Engineering (Full Stack) Architect and oversee development of cloud-hosted applications and services using .NET (Core/ASP.NET) and/or Java, with React / Angular / Next.js on the frontend. Design robust domain models and service boundaries using domain-driven design and event-driven patterns where appropriate. Own API strategy and implementation: RESTful APIs (and GraphQL where needed), including versioning, rate limiting, and backward-compatible changes. Ensure frontend applications are performant, accessible, and maintainable, with a strong component architecture and state management strategy. Own the technical strategy for ingesting, transforming, and serving healthcare data (claims, pharmacy, EHR, eligibility, reference data). Lead design and implementation of data pipelines and lakehouse/warehouse layers using tools such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Databricks, Azure SQL (Snowflake experience is a plus). Ensure strong data modeling (OLTP and OLAP), schema design (star/snowflake), and performance tuning for analytics and reporting workloads. Implement and enforce data governance controls (RBAC, PII/PHI handling, lineage, quality checks) in partnership with Security and Compliance. Cloud, DevOps & Observability Drive our Azure-first cloud architecture (with pragmatic use of AWS or other clouds where needed) including scalability, resiliency, and cost optimization. Champion DevOps practices: build and improve CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps / GitHub Actions / Jenkins), automated testing, and blue/green or canary deployments. Promote Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Bicep/CloudFormation) for repeatable and auditable environments. Ensure strong observability: logging, metrics, traces, SLOs/SLIs, dashboards, and alerting; partner with Operations to reduce MTTR and improve reliability. Security, Compliance & Quality Embed security and privacy into the SDLC (DevSecOps): static analysis, dependency scanning, secret management, and secure coding practices. Ensure solutions adhere to HIPAA, SOC 2, and HITRUST‑aligned controls, in partnership with Security/Compliance. Support incident response and root‑cause analysis; ensure corrective actions are designed into code, tests, and pipelines. Drive a strong testing culture: unit, integration, contract, performance, and regression testing with high automation. Cross‑Functional Collaboration Work closely with Product Management to align technical designs with product vision, scope, and timelines. Partner with Data, Clinical, and Operations leaders to translate business workflows into robust technical solutions. Participate in vendor evaluations and technical due diligence for key third‑party platforms, APIs, and tools. What You Bring Must‑Have Qualifications 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading engineering teams (manager, senior manager, or director level). Proven track record building and operating cloud-hosted SaaS platforms and enterprise applications. Strong full-stack background: Backend: C#/.NET (Core/ASP.NET) and/or Java/Spring Boot, API design, background processing, integration patterns. Frontend: React, Angular, or Next.js, TypeScript, modern UI architecture. Deep experience with relational databases and SQL (e.g., SQL Server, Azure SQL, PostgreSQL), including schema design and performance tuning. Hands‑on experience designing and operating ETL/ELT pipelines and data platforms (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks, data lake/warehouse patterns). Practical experience with CI/CD, containers (Docker), and container orchestration (Kubernetes or Azure Kubernetes Service). Solid understanding of security and compliance in regulated environments (ideally healthcare): secure coding, identity and access management, PHI protection. Experience leading teams using modern Agile practices (Scrum, Kanban, or similar). Nice‑to‑Have / Preferred Direct experience with healthcare data (claims, pharmacy, EHR) or PBM / specialty pharmacy systems. Exposure to event-driven architectures, messaging/streaming (e.g., Kafka, Service Bus), and microservices patterns. Experience with AI/ML‑adjacent engineering (building data pipelines that support models, integrating ML services into production apps). Familiarity with observability stacks (e.g., App Insights, Datadog, Prometheus/Grafana) and distributed tracing. Experience improving developer experience (DevEx) and using engineering metrics (e.g., DORA, SPACE) to drive change.
