Teen Leadership Coordinator (University Village Albany) (4128U), Recreation and Wellbeing The University of California, Berkeley is a leading institution dedicated to equity and diversity in higher education. We seek equity‑mindful applicants for the Teen Leadership Coordinator role in our Youth Recreation program. Application Review Date Saturday, March 23, 2024. Responsibilities Support and coach junior staff throughout camp days, providing guidance on lesson plans. Provide training, support, and coaching to assigned staff in their programs. Assist with development and facilitation of in‑person staff training. Maintain health, safety, and well‑being of staff. Organize and document a professional development program, including weekly staff meetings. Ensure staff follow all policies and procedures, providing a safe and educational experience for all youth campers. Help campers and staff adjust to camp life and each other. Motivate campers and staff to enthusiastically participate in all programs and activities. Create schedules for CILTs and collaborate on schedules for Junior Counselors and Counselors‑in‑Training. Complete individual midsummer check‑ins, providing positive and constructive feedback. Prepare, maintain, and process all forms and paperwork accurately (rosters, timesheets, inventory, etc.). Complete Accident Reports, Incident Reports, and CANRA forms when required. Communicate with Youth Programs Coordinator on customer service, paperwork, facility, program development, and staff supervision. Maintain equipment, binders, and supplies. Develop lesson plan and curriculum standards for CILTs. Monitor day‑to‑day activities and be a visible, accessible leadership staff member. Provide feedback to improve programs in leadership meetings. Assist with or lead special events, staff meetings, theme days, and other programs. Organize and run parent orientations and promote theme days or group traditions. Communicate with parents about CILT progress or concerns. Administer First‑Aid/CPR as needed. Ensure staff have appropriate equipment and supplies. Manage lost‑and‑found items and adapt to unexpected changes. Display appropriate professional behavior around campers, parents, and staff. Accept constructive feedback and correct behaviors. Follow camp policies, including uniform and schedule. Fill in for staff as needed and complete all tasks promptly. Required Qualifications Advanced knowledge of or ability to learn program activity. Leadership and interpersonal skills. Creative problem‑solving and decision‑making skills. Minimum one year of experience working in recreational or educational programs for youth. Knowledge of lesson planning and skill progression. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency with basic computer applications. Knowledge of or ability to learn campus policies and procedures. Passion for working with youth. Education / Training (Required) High school diploma and/or equivalent certification, experience, or training. Current American Red Cross Adult & Pediatric CPR, AED, First‑Aid, Epi‑Pen, and Asthma certification (or willingness to complete upon hire). Preferred Qualifications Prior management experience. Experience in lesson plan/curriculum creation in a recreational or educational setting. Experience in an educational setting. Education / Training (Preferred) Associate or Bachelor’s degree, or some college coursework. Certification to instruct in the applicable recreational sports program. Salary & Benefits Compensation: $23.50 – $24.00 per hour. This is a 3‑month, 30% part‑time (12 hours per week) contract position, non‑exempt and paid bi‑weekly. It is not eligible for UC benefits.
